Plugs, Service, etc... Need some help

Okay I'm approaching 45k miles on the Evo and have read a ton of threads and have been to a couple of dealerships and everyone tells a different story...

I need some help on the best things to do for my baby's 45K service.

Spark Plugs? (and what type?)
Spark Plug Wires? (and what type?)

Any belts need to be changed?

Help....

Unless your heavily modded or have an upgraded turbo stick with,

NGK: BPR7ES (copper), or BPR7EIX (Irridium) plugs

Stock wires.

change your accsesory belt and your good to go.

I don't know how my experience with my Mits turbo of 1990 translates to the Evo, but its' worth a mention.
Back in the 90's most of us tried every spark plug known to mankind.
Popular conscenus and experience was that platinum plugs didn't work too well due to the relatively weak spark of those vintage engines.
I tired hotter and colder copper and platinums.
I to did not like the platinum plugs.
The coppers worked best, however, they would "read" black almost always.
What you're looking for in a plug "reading" is for it to look a light chocolate color, very little ash, no black deposits, no white spots, or bluing/gray hot spots.
The plug the worked the BEST for my modded Mits turbo were
made by AC Delco called "rapidfire".
I don't know if they are still made in a copper conductor, but the modern Mits spark systems I'm sure provide the needed energy for platinum cores, and the Rapidfires comes in platinum.

The Rapidfire plugs idled the best, didn't hiccup with increased boost and high rpm running, and they looked perfect, always a nice lightly dusty light chocolate color with no spotting. They came pregapped and worked perfectly, the best in my opinion.

I found the in my turbo I changed the plugs every 15k miles, but with the Rapidfires
30k was not a problem.
Check them out, I really loved them and the cost was very competitive.

BTW, Splitfires sucked!

DO NOT use platinum plugs in youe EVO .

Search on these forums and youll see everybody uses the plugs I previously mentioned

the OEM plugs are iridium so stick with those. I changed mine at 40 and they were fried. I had free maintanence on mine and they changed my accesory belt at 30k for free along with all the fluids in the drivetrain

stick with the stock wires for sure.as far as plugs go stock or ngk bpr7es gapped between 26-28 and change all belts and hoses if needed and your set,i would also change the trans fluid(bg syncroshift,diaqueen in t/c and diff.) good luck

I'm at 45k now. I'm changing my timing & balance belt with Power Enterprise.

Spark Plugs: NGK Iridium BPR7EIX
Wires: Magnecor 8.5mm (Some guys say they have a problem with these some dont, personally I have not)

I just recently tried a few different plug set-up's...bpr7es & bpr8es gapped @.028. the 8's were too cold and i lost 20 whp (this was all done on a mustang dyno) the 7's brought me back up to power, but unfortantly would miss @ 6500+ rpm @ 25psi. So i put in NEW OEM iridum plugs and voila...all power was available and no ignition break-up @ higher rpm's

Ok.
The Rapidfire plugs worked the best for me back then, better than the NGK's.
Stock plugs always seem to work great.
Stock plug wires are usually not so great, especially their protective sheaths.

Also, the problem with the Eclipse turbo's and platinum plugs was mainly due to
the weak ignition system, not because of platinum being a bad plug.
Is the new Evo still plaqued with a weak ignition?

My Owners manual get stolen when my EVO was broken into after the first month I had it.... They just grabbed everything in the glove box and ran....

Does the dealer cover this under warranty... I am at 50, and know one has changed my plugs...please advise, so i can go yell at my dealer.
