Bizarre situation, inexplicable CEL disaperance

NOTE: Sorry about my English, it is not my first language(I think I misspell a word wrong on the tittle)

Hello fellow Evo owners,

As the tittle says for some inexplicable reason I have no CEL for almost a month now.

Since I start running the testpipe almost 18 months ago I always had a permanent CEL due to the cat delete.

My last 3 mods were: Works 02 3" Housing and recently a HyperSun ignition amplifier plus a retune (road custom tune )from Al.

Is there a remote bizarre posibility that I ran the CEL lighton the dash for so long that is actually burnt and no longer serviceable? other than that, what is it?

I know you guys are thinking that I have disconnect the battery terminals but actually I haven't at all. What gives?

The main point here is that everytime I had to disconnet my battery terminal for other maintenance the CEL would disappear for a day or two then it would remain lit. Almost a month later and still no CEL , I am not excited, I am actually worry that perhaps a harness somewhere is not comunicating with the ECU.

Thanks!!

Carlos

One way to tell if the light burnt out or not is to see if it lights up when you turn the igntion on in the second position. When the key is in the second position and not started the light should be on.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think your idea rules out two of the possible fails: faulty CEL light and miscomunication between ECU and CEL light.

I just went to the car and I got the "service engine soon" (CEL) light once I turn the ignition on. The light would not stay after I run the car.

I am still trying to solve this mistery...

Get a code reader. It shows you if it has any codes stored in the memory and if the light really should be on. I got one from Discount Auto Parts for $70 by Actron.

Thanks again for your responses, I was actually thinking about getting my own OBD II code reader as I have now 3 Mitsubishi ECU power cars.

I would try to get one as soon as possible and report any findings.

Still no CEL 3 days after I opened this topic. I driven my car everyday. About a total time of a full month driving the car and still no CEL.

I had that problem with my old wrx because of the test pipe. The CEL would come and go until I got a CEL fix and cleared the code. Didn't have any more problems after that. I'm currently using the Helix mechanical fix on the Evo and haven't had any problems.

Did the CEL disapear right after Al reflashed the ECU? I know that the Cobb Tunning AccessPort reflash system I use in my WRX wagon eliminates the CEL from having the cat in the downpipe removed without desableing other CEL's from comming in. If it dissapeared after the reflash, talk to Al and ask him if this is one of the features of his re-flash.

autozone reads CEL's for free, ask them to do it. If there was a problem with the o2 sensor there would be a CEL on for that something like "SECONDARY OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURE", not for "CATALYTIC CONVERTER INEFFICIENCY" which is what you get with a test pipe.

BTW off topic the mechanical o2 fix got rid of my CEL light and i passed Mass Emissions with a test pipe!

You act like you want the CEL, be happy that you don't have it, perhaps after AL tuned your car made it go away. My guess would be since he leaned it out some, its not getting to rich of a reading. It sounds like you should be fine.
