Got an 05 STi and now thinking moving to a Evo IX

Guys,

I'm thinking of trading in my 2005 STi for a EVO IX, I hear they are really putting down amazing numbers and are totally different cars than the VIII.

The only thing I am kinda uneasy about is the Mitsu tranny.

Tell me what you guys think.

This is my current car:

^^ yeah i'm gonna go next week to test drive one, my STi is a great and fun car, but its got horrible body roll, its a little better now that I am on RSR Ti2000s but stock it was ridiculous.

as far as the tranny goes, as long as you don't race it a lot you should be fine.... i got about 2 autox season out of mine with 6k launches and downshifting to 1st (tight courses) and just spend 1700 for a new 1-2 shift fork and a new clutch.... i've heard the subies are better in the transmission area

Do it

AMMARX786...I had an 05 STI and just bought my 06 IX (not MR) 2 weeks ago. There are many things that I like better on the IX then the STI.

The handling is much better, the 5 speed is actually nice because IMO the 1st to 2nd shift on the STI id absolutely worthless and 6th was a joke - you can really wind out the IX 5 speed, the seats are much much better, and stock it is faster than my STI was. I can honestly say the IX is a little intimidating to me - it has so much power and handles so precisely that I find myself backing of in the turns because I'm afraid of swinging the end out.

Not to mention the fact that for about $1200 from a vendor on this board, you can be putting down about 330 WHP! Hell $1200 in my Suby would have bought me the exhast I wanted and nothing else

The only thing I sort of miss from the Suby was the engine sound, but the Evo has it's own great sound as well. I can honestly say that's about it.

I traded the Suby for a Hemi Magnum because I thought I missed the "big engine" and the rumble, etc. but that lasted a whole 4 months! When I decided to come back to these types of cars, I didn't even consider another Suby - I went right for the Evo.

Good Luck!!

^^ dennyt4, I really do like my car a lot but the things I hate is the lack of power when you reach past 6K rpm, it just feels like its pulling so hard and then just starts to lose power, I really don't like how the transmission is notchy, its not smooth, also on curves there is some body roll (its gotten better after I got the RSR Ti2000 but still its there a little), I don't like how my rear struts clunk and make noises.... hmm thats about it OHHH and modding the STi is too expensive, just like you said.

OHHH one more thing, near stock EVO IXs are running like 12s in the 1/4 mile where you gotta do a bunch of mods on the STi to get in the 12s.

Lets see what happens, I love not having payments, my car is fully paid But I really do want to get an EVO IX, hell I'll only have to pay like 5 or 6K to get one, I'm thinking I can get like 25 or 26K for my STi (its in great condition)

Thanks!

AMMARX786- I think you were the guy that sent me the PM on the IWSTI forum. If so, I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you yet. I broke my ribs and I've been down for a few days. The good thing is the Doc gave me Oxycontin

Anyway, I agree with what the other guys said about the STi. I have found the Evo to be a more enjoyable car to drive. It handles better and it is sharper and cripser than the STi.

I was/am worried about the Mitsu tranny too. I've seen many of them with problems over the years, although not on Evos. I think as long as you are not abusive to the tranny it will last for a long time. If you are really worried about it then keep it stock and maintain the warranty. It is a fast car right out of the box.

I raced my Evo and STi against each other last week. I drove the STi and my wife drove the Evo. My Evo is bone stock and the STi has a Cobb stage II. I know we aren't supposed to talk of street racing on this board so just let me say that the Evo had no problems at all keeping up with a modified STi. From a 45 mph roll with the Evo in 3rd and the STi in 4th the Evo flat out destroyed the STi. It was unreal how quick the Evo jumped ahead and there was no catching up after that. On two other 3rd gear pulls the two cars were side by side with the Evo slightly in front and neither car could put any distance on the other.

Again, this was a stock Evo IX MR vs a Stage II STi I would have been pissed that I lost except for the fact that I was beaten by my own car. Now just imagine if I put the same $1,200-$1,300 into the Evo that I put in the STi.

Of course the wife thinks the Evo won because she is a better driver
