Purchase a evo

Hey guys, im new here as you can see. I was going to sell my car very shortly and take a loan out and buy an evo. Probably 03-05 with hopefully 4 to 15k on it.
My friends uncle had an avo though, and he told me not to buy one. He had an 03 he told me that he went through about 3 clutches and 2 new transmissions. And then my friend goes "well you were runnin 30 lbs of boost retard" and i was liek wtf your an idiot. And i went on more n thought well maybe just @ the track. but nope he said daily driving. Im guessing he had problems bc of that. He told me that theyre hard cars to maintain with bc their trannys go and clutches a lot. He said theyre bad cars and to go with an sti bc you can do more with them and their faster. And ppl just think the evos are fatser bc retards were drivin the sti's and didnt have a boost controller n didnt know how to turn boost up. Which sounds pretty dumb to me and i dont believe it, ive read magazines n tons of articles bout evo vs sti n evo always took it as i recall.
I was just wondering if any of this is true, i assume not. and if any1 has tranny problems and im sure any of you prob have had clutch problems if you have upgrades bc thats what i read anyways. My friends uncle had the 3rd or 5th evo out that was in the state of p.a . and it was just the reg evo 8 i believe, they didnt have the mr or anything like that yet. Should i say **** him n go w/ an evo or what. I know how to treat cars and i dont beat the ***** off of em. Im real good with a standard car, prob bc my car is a standard. I would never even think bout runnin 30 lbs boost on a nice car like an evo. I wouldnt even attempt to do a stupid act like that. But what boost is safe to kick it up to for like racing for a nite. or should the stock 19 lbs be cool?well im sure it would be i know these cars have some big *****.
I wanna go test drive one but i know ill be hooked on it and have the for sale sign in my car window as soon as i got out of the evo. Also, what do you think a good deal for an evo is. I dont wanna spend 20 + k on an evo that has 20+ k miles on it.
And i know everyone has their opinions but which one would you suggest out of the evos? I dotn like the rs bc i want a spoiler and cd player n sunroof n all. So maybe the mr or? I dont care that much about leather seats but itd be cool if the price differential wasnt much. So will i encounter many probs with an evo or not? I wouldnt think so as long as its treated good. What do you think? please dont flame me if i said anythin stupid.

You need to use paragraphs if you expect us to read that. When you clean it up, I'd be glad to help.

yea.... on another note... i would go for the EVO. especially if you are planning on modding... but from what you said in that mess of a post up there.. lol, you might want to go w/ an STi.. what you should do is go to both car companys web sites.. n take a look.. or use that SEARCH option at the top there... yea the yellow one...

another quick question of not minded. Whats the insurance on an evo. I wouldnt think it wouldnt be all that bad because of the AWD and the 4 door. But about how much a yr is insurance for those who dont mind telling me. Id rather hear form accident free and what not drivers because obvioulsy theirs would be cheaper.

That really depends on age, driving record, where you live, how much you want covered etc etc. I'd say something like 1200-1400 a year would be fair.

Possible translation. Linko to English? No hard feelings, dude.

Hey guys. I'm new here as you can see ...

I'm thinking of selling my car in preparation to buy an Evo - probably an VIII with hopefully 4 to 15k miles. However, I have a few concerns.

My friend's uncle had an Evo. He told me not to buy one based on his experiences with an '03 he had. He had to replace three clutches and two trannies. He was running 30 pounds of boost, though - the "retard". None of his Evo issues were a result of driving at the track. He maintained that Evos are unreliable due to tranny and clutch problems - nevermind what overboosting can do for a daily driver.

He said I'm better of with an STi/I because more can be done with them and they're faster as a result. He continued to boast that people just think Evos are faster because people who can't drive are the same folks that own Rexes. That and a boost controller issue: that no one knows when to turn the boost up at the right time - which sounds stupid to me.

I don't believe a word of it. I've done my own research. I've read many magazines that have covered the Evo versus the STi/I comparo and the Evo has almost always won. I can't deny this inner belief that the Evo is truly the faster car - stock for stock and potential for potential.

Should i say to hell with him and go with an Evo anyways? Also, what's a fair price for a good, clean VIII? I dont wanna spend $20k-plus on an Evo that has more than 20k miles.

Above all, will I encounter many problems with an Evo? Just how reliable have your Evos been?

In the mean time, I'll do some research on my own and dive deeper into EvoM by using the search feature. By the way, sorry for the long post. I'm a newbie. Forgive me.
