Well, they made up their money with the Pitpass.

No, it's not mandatory.

Suggested Retail Price of the carbon fiber pitpass (9 services) is $668.

the other dealership was marking there up by like 3-5k
im wondering if i can get my money back and canel this contract shince i havent used it yet only have 1500 mile on my car. Like the extened warrentee if u chose to cancel it they will refund your money. iWonder if it works the same way with the pit pass.
but the pitpass is liek a maintenance program correct?
dont mitsubishi car like 100 bucks per maintenace anyway. so im like pre paying for my reg. maintenace right?
but still after u guy told me this i feel i really got raped.
what allso funny was i got the car in Feb. was still snowing here in minesota. iwasnt even able to drive my car will like 4 weeks ago

It's marked up dood, no matter how you slice it. They just slipped it under the category of "pit pass" for you. If you can get it cancelled, by all means I'd say go for it. Cuz like fireball said, it MSRPs for less than HALF that.

I asked the same question and noone replied... is this maintanance included in the MSRP or do they make you buy it on top of it?
Did anyone here bought it?

I don't wanna think that the car is $30k if it ends up being $32 with this. It's a big difference.

It's been answered a ton of times. No, you don't HAVE TO buy it. Most people on this board didn't buy it. It is simply a maintenance plan (oil changes and inspection) that you can purchase IF YOU WANT TO

YES GUY YOU CAN CANCEL THE PITT PASS. I acquired the pitt pass in my deal (2K over), and after further research, I concluded that the pitt pass ONLY save a few bucks, literally like $20 SAVINGS opposed to paying per visit! As a result of these findings, I immedediately requested to cancel it and YES it is cancelable (is this a word? ). Anyway, the pitt pass consists of a $50 cancellation fee and in the end the bottom line was that I was able to borrow $950 + tax minus $50 @ 5% interest. A nice small loan for mods in the future. Not bad baby!

The $50 might have been something specific to that dealer. However, I don't think a dealer has to refund you the money either, unless you make a big stink. Just be prepared to have to fight a little for it.

What the dealer did was a direct violation of the FTC's Magnuson-Moss Warrenty act. This is a federal law stating that anyone offering goods with a warranty cannot make the warranty contingent on purchasing "tie-ins" like service at their own establishment. They violated federal law by stating to you that the warranty would not be honored without this extra purchase.
Tell the dealer to stuff the whole thing, immediately or you will notify the Better Business Bureau and the proper authorities.

Do a search on google or here for info on the Magnuson-Moss warranty act.

I cancelled my pass too. When I negotiated the price of my car I thought the pass was "required" as well. So I just named my price I'd pay for both, which was over sticker. We didn't finalize the prices separately.

I signed the Pit Pass forms at the dealer a week ago and noticed a few things. 1) It didn't mention anything about the 15k and 30k service the dealer was advertising. 2) They put down a price of $2,495 for it! 3) The Pit Pass can be cancelled within 60 days for a full refund or pre-rata after the first 60 days.

Armed with all that I called the owner of the dealership and told him I was worried about not getting the 15k and 30k and that I wanted to cancel it. He assured me I'd get the 15k and 30k, no matter what the Pit Pass said. I still ended up cancelling the thing because $2,495 is just huge!

I think it was mainly dealer error for valuing the Pit Pass at so much money. They could've just as easily written down more money for the car and like $1k for the pass. That's about what I was valuing it at when I bought the car. Not that I'm going to complain, that's my big gain! With the refund of the Pit Pass price I ended up getting my Evo for a nice chunk under MSRP, within one week of launch of the car.

This is a good question ... the pitt pass is only $995 plus tax so the remaining $685 was mark-up or something else they tried to throw in. Go down there and figure out why they overcharged you for the pitt pass. If it was dealer mark-up then so be it but they should have explained this to you up front. BTW, my dealer told me that the $50 early cancellation fee is standard ... so HOPEFULLY SOMEBODY CAN VERIFY THIS at their dealer.

How do you cancel the Pit Pass? Just call in to a local service area and ask?
