does your evo........

hi guys , riding and driving in my dad's evo, i haev noticed the following, and was curious if ur evos did it

after you push it past about 5 or 6k does it back fire when u let off?(i kno its normal for some cars, but with custom exaust its really noticeable)

when engine braking, in 1st and 2nd gear does it rock back and forth (almost like abs)

when making sharp turns at fast rates of speed does the rear end hop a bit?

and finally have you been able to spin the tires in the wet?

thnx for answers, jus a bit curious about the other lancers out there!

chris

Well, I s'pose I have to answer 'no' to all of your questions. I'm sure I could break traction in the wet if I were really setting out to do it though.

I've gotten the tail to swing out twice in the rain, both kind of surprised me (1st awd car) it transitions form understeer to oversteer on the throttle lift pretty quickly, i'd never really experienced it before.. once the tail breaks loose though, its pretty easy to keep it sliding with a little throttle...

no to everything else.

No backfire, except when I hit the rev limiter... and thats with the complete 3" exhaust.

No rock.

No wheel hop, just a nice 4 wheel drift if I am way into it.

I can spin the tires fairly well on the dry, with the boost controller and exhaust, so wet would be easy.

when you downshift to "engine brake" try letting the clutch out a little smoother.

this should go away

Sound like your dad might be running an atmospheric BOV. Yeah? Could be the aftermarket exhaust too.

Yeah, well if he wants to stop the exhaust popping he should lean out the mixture a little or run the BOV recirculating.

Not at all but I have not modified the exhaust, yet. Perhaps someone else with modified exhaust can elaborate further.

No rocking on mine ... braking is always very smooth.

when making sharp turns at fast rates of speed does the rear end hop a bit?
Only if I have more passengers (a lot of excess weight in the car). Otherwise the rear end is very stable.

and finally have you been able to spin the tires in the wet?
Dry pavement = not even close. Wet pavement = I have but but definitely not for long ... just a very quick spin and then it hooks up quickly ... then again, I try not to launch hard most of time since it's obviously not good for the car.

I can spin the wheels on dry depending on the surface I'm on. In the wet it's too easy. No to everything else.

Exhaust backfire could be an exhaust leak which introduces fresh air into the hot exhaust gases and ignites with any unburned fuel.
