Question What Would You Do?!?

Hey Guys, Im Torn over a decision....Hopefully you guys can help me. Ok here it goes, I have a 99 civic Hacthback with a 1.6 DOHC VTEC. I want to buy a 06 GG MR, Im saving 10G's to put down on down payment. Plus selling my car for 7G's on top so im looking around putting 17G's down on an new MR. Or my second option is throwing the 10G's into the civic. If i through the money into the civic my plans are buying a 2.2 Dart block JE pistons, Eagle Rods, Scat Crank, And a nice Rev Hard Stg 3 turbo kit. Basically I want 350whp with the option to Crank it up any time. Of course i would have to have a beater. If i get the MR my goal will be 300whp every day driver...I make about 2G's a month and payment and insurance for the MR would be around 700 a month. I have about another 500 a month in other bills. So that leaves me to save 800 a month. Basically what i am asking is would you have a civic capable of 600whp and still have money in the bank. Or have a 06 GG MR and be a little tight on money...Help me out people

Money in the bank is always nice but is the Civic gonna be breakin' every other day??? Your bank account could dwindle quickly with a car like that. The MR will take very little in mods to destroy that little hatch and be very reliable at the same time. Either way the money is going to be gone. You have to decide which car you'll like better in the longrun. Just my $.02

i agree.

u want a platform that is proven, has widespread aftermarket support and has shown serious, serious results in a streetable and safe manner.

the EVO platform was designed with speed, performance, braking, handling in mind, and with a proven drivetrain used in racing applications

the civic is designed for frugal commuting.

use your money wisely.

I would also think of what will be more reliable in the end...i would go with a brand new mr that also still has factory warranty. the civic would be quick but how long it will be quick is the question from the problems you might face...but my 2 cents are to get the evo.. you'll be more all around happy.

And you can haul your kids and groceries in the Evo with no problem. Civic, not so much.

Anything over 350 fwhp is a waste. Traction is non-existent, and I speak from experience (former 375 whp fwd Eclipse owner here). You also won't get $17k out of your Civic ever. My $.02.

I think u should see it as an investment. Do u really want to spend 10k on a car that is valued even less???? I myself had a civic not modded and it was a great car but modding it to max capacity would be costly. Consider maybe an 05mr u can find those for a pretty good price =). Your wallet is important if u are going to mod the evo u can say bye bye to the warranty, it comes down to how responsible u will be w it.

You'll get alot more respect from other people if you have an evo rather than the civic. Ditch the civic, get the evo, you will be happy. After 8 months of owning my evo RS, I put 20,500 miles on it and I can't stop driving, such a fun car.

yeah if you plan on getting and evo...and modding it...dont bother paying any-other waranty...such as extended/or a side waranty they come up with....if i knew i was going to do what i did...i would have not payed any waranty, just stay with the factory waranty and if you mod a part...youll just loose the waranty for that part....the dealer will try to give you crap if something else meses up such as....how does having a 3 in TBE affect my electrical system? haha they said my TBE was also part of electrical they were trying to take plenty of my waranties such as...suspension/electrical/mechanical and so on....dont buy the extended just stick with factory if your going to mod

I would get the evo, but in your position I would not spend the cash on a new one. Pick up a 03 for 22-24 grand, dump 2 grand into it and run low 12's all day long. Only reason I would ever buy a new evo again would be if mitsu had a warenty that was worth anything. Other than that Ill take used one with a few miles on it being sold by a guy In the position that you maybe in if you buy a new one.
Hey Ill sell you mine for 24,500. Its a 03 with 14,000miles garage kept, and flawless condition. Put ten grand down on that and you have a loan for a car that books for around 24. payments will be nothing. and it runs low 12's all day long. Oh the reason I purchased my car new, was caust it was a carry over from the prior yeah=less mile and lower price.
