Anyone ever ad a resonator?

So i like the tone and sound of my exhaust, but the actual sound level is way WAY too loud. I happen to have not one but two three inch resonators that i picked up a while ago. I am having them welded into my exhaust.

Anyone ever do anything like this? and if so, did it actually help with the sound at all?

i didnt add one, but my exhaust (hks carbon ti) comes with one. One of my freinds has the same exhaust, and he removed his and it was a hell of alot louder. so im sur if u add it, it will make a difference.

getting two 3in resonators was the problem. for a mod like this bigger is always better. i have a 20in resonator and it helped.

by three inch i meant diameter, not length. They were both 18 inches in length.....so consider it one 36 inch resonator.

and it didn't help.

I have just added one Magnaflow 3" (14" long)resonator to my AMS TBE that comes without any resonators. Theres noticeble difference especially on the highway around 3500-4000 rpm, less drone inside the car. Now i can actually hear my stereo Its still loud, but what the resonator does is it helps with the drone inside the car mostly. So im pretty happy with result.

I actually used a Dynomax "Race" Bullet muffler as a resonator/test pipe in place of my cat. My exhaust already had 2 resonators, and with the bullet in there the exhaust note is exactly the same as it was with a high flow cat.

YMMV, but all the other evo's I've seen got considerably louder when going catless. I'm happy with mine, and it only cost $30 for the muffler and $60 for the welding and flanges.

I have 2 resonators on mine, and along with the exhuast being a hell-of-a-lot heavier it's also quieter.

Dude: So it was $60 just to get two flanges welded on the resonator/cat-delete pipe?

I was about to try and find a local shop to get this done.. I was expecting it would cost much less.

I have a custom 3" exhaust , Hi Flow Cat , 18" resonator, Magnaflow muffler..... It sounds nice going thru the gears but quiets down on the freeway enough to keep the CHIPPY's away.
