Your forgetting that South Coast also has like 80 billion evo's in stock and that is way they are letting them go for that cheap. NO dealer around here in SoCal is doing that. Hell, even the GSR's still have mark up.

There are two or three dealers currently discounting heavily due to inventory being rather long. Still however remains the fact that the MR is a limited production (no one knows firm numbers) but fact is production is weighted towards beginning of the year thus later this year the MR will be hard to come by thus retaining value Dec onwards IMO better than most.

Its simply Mitsu history repeating itself. V6 Eclipse made the outgoing Turbo Eclipse a hot item in the used market. This new Evo wont go over well at first and will be tough to mod for at least a year which means people will want to get their hands on the IX's.

I agree 100%. The IX will only appreciate, not depreciate when the X comes out. The VIII and the IX are the last of the greatest 4 banger ever produced, the 4G63. There's way too much aftermarket support for the engine that's been around for 15 yrs. The aftermarket support will be there for the X a little later down the line, but the engine will be far too new to have the support that the VIII and the IX already have. $hitsu should've decided to keep the bulletproof 4G63 in the X imo. Besides aren't they in the red still?

Well, would you suggest purchasing an Evo VIII now or waiting a couple months and *maybe* getting a Evo IX...As they may no longer be available. What are the differences between the 8 and 9? I tried to search, but

Wrong, Huntington Beach Mitsu's got a gang of IX's available as well, and there is absolutely no mark up. I'm sure they offer the exact same price if not better than SC Mitsu.

there's still 8 or 9 evos sitting on the lot here at city mitsubishi in jacksonville that haven't moved in months. They're probably more willing to negotiate on the price now than when I got my IX.

Anything on the differences? I would like a brand new evo 8... but i doubt that's possible

It's called supply and demand. They were probably allocated more EVO's because they weren't screwing people and charging over MSRP last year. In the car business, the more you sell, the more you get. So those dealers in SoCal who didn't sell as many must make due with their allocation and that might mean charing more. It doesn't change the fact that the EVO is not a car to hold value.
PM gaijin here on the forums. He is the finance director of Mark Mitsubishi here in Scottsdale and they are the largest dealer in the zone. He won't lie to you.

I didn't buy the EVO because of resale value, but because I wanted it. I love my IX and I know worth nothing now, but I don't care.

Evo has great resale....at least according to articles on CNN via KBB...but what do they know!!

As far as depreciation - hellsyeah it's gonna depreciate, it's a car isn't it?
The thing is that clean, un-modded (or lightly modded) IXs of all stripes should do fairly well, since the new model will not be heavily discounted for a good while. Taking MR - trim levels, I figure something like this is likely:

IX MR - MSRP ~ 36K, actual price paid ~ 34K or so...

X equivalent MR - MSRP ~ 38K actual priced paid ~ 37-38K

Private sale resale of a IX MR in 2008 with 15K miles - 26K or so...

A little better than the VIIIs are selling for now with equivalent mileage...

Just get your IX from S. Coast and that will help your depreciation a lot. I do think the X will be a success - it's an EVO, after all.

Yes there is differences. Here is a list

IX has....
MIVEC
Better turbo
Better, more addaptive ECU
Bigger fuel pump then VIII
revised coolent passages which allow more aggresive tuning

New front bumper w/o the "beck"
blackout headlights and tail lights
revised enkies on the RS & GSR - 5oz lighter then VIII enkies
Hollow carbon fiber wing (VIII is solid)

Seats are now suede and alactra (sp) - black & gray (VIIIs are black & blue)
carbon fiber look dash piece
Steering wheel painted black (VIII was silver)

A IX normal dynos 10-20 HP&TQ more then an VIII. The MIVEC and new turbo on the IX make daily driving better due to power being available at a low RPM.
The main reason a IX is better then an VIII is its outstanding output after mods.
A IX with just a turbo back exhaust and a flash will produce power similar to a VIII with turboback exhaust, cams and flash (usually need a Fuel pump too).

If you want to purchase an EVO, then there is nothing like the present. Opinions are great.. Everyone has one. Choose the car for what it is and purchase one.. If not, then waiting to see the price go down leaves you without an Evo til prices go down.. I have watched the RX-7 and Supra and a few others over the years and it seems that supply and demand win these wars. The X will be in question til about mid next year during Tokyo show or Detroit. My opinion is, I don't see a significant drop until the first 1000 or so units roll out of the factory and into the dealerships.

look for a used evo ix i just bought a ww ix mr for 28,000 with only 900 miles. there out there just be patient the dealer pissed me off so i looked private party
