The ONLY issue on going VTA with my IX; when shifting at high RPMs & speed, it's a bit rough, it doesn't feel as smooth and buttery. When I say rough, I mean; it kinda bogs for a split second until the quickly hit the accelerator. I also ran at the track the other night...experienced some issues shifting into 3rd (it wouldn't). Let the car rest a few hours and tried again...no probs but my trap speed and times were a bit off from the usual.

I'm gonna go again soon and run it with the stock IX diverter valve and the SSQV. Might end up sticking w/the stock metal DV.

Well, the problem is that earlier you said you ran VTA with no problems. Yet, the main problem with running VTA is that it releases metered air when you SHIFT, therefore causing a rich condition between shifts which results in bogging and lack of throttle response. So, you experienced this exact problem then came in this thread and said it worked perfectly. This happens all the time and is the reason the VTA phenomenon continues to persist. Newbs say, "Well, I saw some guy say he ran VTA fine on his Evo with no stalling, so I'm gonna do it, too!!! 2F2F FTW, YAY!!"

Yeah, and his question was answered. Now everyone that wants to flame about VTA bov's have taken over. lol. The APS has no prob with bogging when it opens to vta?

none at all... i would continue running it, and more then likely will, just that i bought a buschur front mount and then upper pipes from someone else that has been flanged and has a greddy type s mounted and not recirc'd which is why i asked if there were issues... more than likely i will have the flange cut off and something for the aps welded on so i can recirc it like it is suppose to.

In order to get other VTA valves to allow the car to idle, you have to use significantly high spring pressures in the valve, this results in a fluttering, compressor surge, and then when it does open, drivability problems...

A VTA Blowoff valve is not a good first mod.. Its one of the WORST MODS YOU CAN MAKE to a MAF equipped car.. There are circumstances when its necessary, but typically you would have already altered the car to the point where its required (At some point the stock MAF is no longer in the picture, and therefore will be fine)

You will need to spend an additional $500-$2000 for your $150-$200 valve to get the car to run properly.. Not exactly a good investment for a mod that is basically a waste of money on the Evo9.. The sound is just not a good enough reason to upgrade..

Oh well, To each his own..

I suggest to everyone who knows better, just leave these threads alone.. I just won't answer any "Why does my car run like crap" threads..
Just move the maf AFTER the BOV, like you did up by the Throttle body, then vent all you want.

There's more to it than that. Malibu Jack has a sophisticated setup. NOtice how he said it would cost you $500-$2000 to get the parts to properly setup the car for running VTA, but in the end there's no gain and no reason for you to do it.

My understanding of his question was to wether or not it just flat-out stalled and died out at idle or during normal driving. The whole high-speed/RPM shift bog seemed more like a little quirk or anamoly to me. I didn't realize that THAT was the infamous VTA "issue" in the Evo community.

But yes WT, your advice does go noticed and I'll probably be switching back to stock DV soon. Thanks for the 411 .

Oh that...the manner that it was worded was one in a million...pure comedy. Nothing personal.

My MAF setup is a custom design and not a stock MAF moved.. Its not worth the expense of doing just to VTA.. I did my setup with the intent of running a large turbo and retain the stock ECU... There are performance gains to be had with my setup, but in no way does VTA or Recirculating have any improvement in performance..

If you run the stock MAF, you have to recirculate it.. Period.. There is no way to get it to "run right" and you will have problems ranging from stalling, erratic idle, rich shift (Kill your catalytic converter), uncontrolled RPM raise between shifts (caused by using a tight setting on your BOV to keep it from stalling)\

It can be downright dangerous, like stalling in an intersection because you lift and vent when trying to cross the road..

You guys really have to get over the delusion that its possible, it cannot be done properly without significant additional expense, just for a loud sound?? My car can be run VTA, yet I don't, even though I have the technology to do it.. WHY? Because there was no point in doing it.. The setup I have was the result of a few months of R&D at a significant expense, and was designed to provide a stable signal at very high volumes of air.. not to WHOOSH.. Want to Whoosh? Pick up a superflush toilet from Home Depot and call it a day..
