your facts are incorrect #2 in theft claims per 1000 Vehicles. Not stolen vehicles.

Opps maybe i should have been more clear. The car is up for auction after being recovered from theft. I was just trying to find the previous owner to find out why the car ended up at the auctions.

Previously stolen vehicles are sometimes branded as "salvage" titles. This affects the resale tremendously. The owner may not have wanted the car back, especially if there was also damage done to it. So the insurance company pays off the owner, and now that they own the car, they auction it off to make back some of the money they paid out.

The only Evo I have heard of being stolen was when the guy left his keys in the car while rafting. That or a flatbed is about what it takes to steal one.

Yhea, thats what I was thinking... people get in to deep on modding and want to 'part out' then do a car-b-que then call their provider for a payoff. When I was a struggling chap in my early 20's I was around other stuggling chaps w 'hot rods' ala the 5.0/Camaro crowd was doing this all the time to get out from under the car.. The Escalades are raping peoples pockets for fuel right now and the market is saturated w/used, modded 'Lades and EXT's that are selling for less than value on the market....thats why these are 'coming up missing' as well.

The evo is number 2 on the list of stolen vehicles. That means your car has almost the highest risk of being stolen. Even though the number of evos getting stolen may be less than the number of civics, the percentage of evos getting stolen is much higher, therefore a higher probability yours will end up being a statistic. The immobilizer is not infallible.... you don't need a flatbed.
