What catback would be best for my application?

Well guys I never thought I would be saying this but the mod bug has bit me and it has got me good. I'm ready to start modding but nothing too extreme for now. I want to keep my warranty so I think I will start off with a a catback and a drop in filter. I plan to also get a reflash but not until I find a spare ecu first. I've been searching and searching and i'm looking for an exhaust that not only sounds great but looks great too!. Most of the exhausts I have searched for do not have any pictures with them on the car. I'm not looking for a "stock looking exhaust". I come from the dsm world and used to own a 2nd gen turbo fwd. I loved the way a lot of exhausts looked on the 2nd gens. They were big, angled, and the piping went underneath the suspension. I haven't personally seen a lot of evo exhausts and i'm wondering if there is one out there that fits my requirements. I am looking for something that is larger and doesn't look completely hidden. An angled muffler would be the best look for me along with a large 3inch pipe. I also don't want a exhaust that tapers down at the cat because I eventually would like to get a downpipe. I also don't want something cheap like megan racing junk. Granted they do make good stuff but I don't see a point in putting a $200 catback on a $30k car. My ideal price range would be $400-$500 either new or used in very good condition. Any ideas of what would be a good choice. All input ins greatly appreciated.

I was about to help until you called Megan junk. Can't say I understand why you'd want to pay more money just because your car cost $30k - horrid logic in this case. Also, regardless of which catback you get, a cat-back+filter will yield no more than 10-15whp for $500-600. A flash would yield 20+whp for $199, and there is absolutely _NO_ reason to buy a separate ECU. That is not normal at all, and other ECUs don't even work without getting them synced to your car at the dealership. Plus, you can always flash your current ECU back to stock in a heartbeat, so not sure why you'd want another ECU - shouldn't let that hold you back.

I agree, but it's identical to the Megan. He also doesn't want a turboback - he said a CAT-BACK for $400-500.

I would say get the ams catback. May be a little more then you want to pay, but fit, finish will be amazing. I think it looks kinda stock, and isn't super loud, yet power made is great. Only reason's not to get ams exhuast is if you want something lighter, such as greddy ti which is around 1200, or you want something a little more show like the hks carbon ti. Good luck, happy modding.

Which is the same thing he could do with Megan, and they are identical exhausts, but he said he doesn't want that "crap" unfortunately.

Wow figured you'd jump in sooner or later. I used to have a megan racing tbe on my Talon and didn't care for it at all. Won't make the same mistake twice. I'm taking my modding one step at a time. I want a catback and then I will get a downpipe later on down the road. I'm not looking for a ton of power right now i'm just getting started. As far as the ecu is concerned I want spare ecu to reflash because reflashing the stock ecu back to stock would be pain and a waste of time. If I can find a stock ecu i'll take it but I don't plan to find one anytime soon. I'm really just trying to find a catback that fits my specs.

I had the TurboXS with the slant Titanium tip that looked and performed very nicely. The tone was very cool and the quality was top notch, although IMHO I would say as good as the Megan/Logic stuff.

Furthermore, getting another ECU is not a bad idea although it is not a pain to revert back to a stock flash. It can be done two ways:

Send your ECU back to Dynoflash/Turbotrix and they will probably flash back to stock for free (you pay shipping both ways of course)
You get the OpenECU cable/SW and save the stock Map and pay for a $50 flash from Al and apply the flash yourself (also very easy and much less expensive)

Right, you can flash back to stock in mere seconds with EcuFlash. Absolutely no need to go through the trouble and expense of a second ECU.

It's easier to flash your ECU back to stock than it is switching ECU's. If your so concerned about getting the ECU back to stock then just get a piggyback.
