Whats the reliability (high milers please)?

Hey all,
I'm new to evos. Actually, so new I don't even have one yet. But I am actively looking now that I found someone who will insure me at a decent rate. Something about turbocharger and 2nd most stolen car in the states.

My question is what kind of reliability have been seen from these cars? Anyone with some mods and high miles? I realize they are 03s, but someone out there has to have a lot of miles on their's. I am coming from a mustang, which mine was highly reliable.

Thanks again,
Chris

its just like anyother car man....if you mod and abuse your car it IS and will break down.....but thats just part of modding your gonna have to deal with....but if you keep it stock and treat it right you should have very few problems.....

there is a guy on these boards whom I believe is named Redcloud.. he has over 100k on his car with some mods and I believe is still going pretty strong..

On my personal car I have about 44,000 with plenty of mods.. Only major problems I have had are freeze plug in water pump (05 TSB out for this) and my alternator went out a couple thousand miles ago, but that's about it.. I'm also having a slight problem right now however, with coolant issues and I'm leaning towards a blown head gasket or stretched head studs So relatively pretty good I think for all the hell it gets..

Sucks to hear about that Mac. And Apex does have a point. Mac you must be running a lot of boost then? The car I am looking at now already has 49,000 miles but it's in my price range.
How does the awd hold up?

i had 60k on my '03 and everything was fine, except i suffered from all the classic TSB's. some of the problems were my fault, but i did have to replace both front struts and both front axle boots.
Was it from aggressive driving? who knows. but i do remember reading alot of members ran into that around 40k
oh yea and 5th gear synchro went out twice til they finally replaced it with the updated ones.

I would check on the history of that vehicle- try to find out what work was done to it. As far as the motor goes, this car is rock solid. the drivetrain is the weakest part imo

evo is not the 2nd most stolen, it has the second most insuance claims posted...

so most spoiler/rim/parts stolen pretty much. I rarely hear of whole evos stolen

I have a couple of track rat friends who have 70K+ and 80K+ miles on their 03 modded evos, and no major problems. They track their cars(road track, not drag) but they don't drive it stupid. One of my friends just changed out the stock clutch pass the 80K mark.

I have about 37K on my 04 and the only problem I have is a front O2 sensor that blinks the SES light every other day. But the car drives fine.

I have 54k with mild mods and no issues whatsoever. I track (road course) my car a few times per year and drive it hard on the street all the time. Rock solid!!!

Also, my 03 had 60.000 before rod knock. Granted, I was running almost 500 whp with a 35r. 2.3 going in very soon...

I think it will be a very reliable car, but it depends how it is treated. Beat the crap out of any car it will break, baby it it will last longer. After all look at all the high mileage dsm's that are still around. Granted some have been rebuilt, but when i was in highschool i knew tons of kids with 100k miles gst's with exhuast intake. I think mitsubishi built a pretty solid car.

This is a little misleading, the Evo has the second most claims per 1000 vehicles insured. The Evo has a very limited run, there are only 5-7k vehicles sold per year in the US, thus that increases the % on claims. In raw numbers, the Evo would fall very close to the bottom of the list...
