Using an EBC as a boost gauge?

How fast do electronic boost controllers give boost reading? I wish I could say how many frames per second, but I doubt it works that way.

I'm deciding on whether or not to buy a manual boost controller and a boost gauge (and cup) for dang near 300 bucks, or just spend an extra sum of money on going with an electronic. I know the AVC-R gives accurate readings, but what about the Profec Spec-B or the HKS one? Would you recommend getting a boost gauge also, or would this be just fine?

I used my Blitz SBC-i color as my main boost gauge, even I have the 3 gauges from Mitsubishi.

My Greddy Profec B Spec II is pretty darn close to the same reading my mechanical Autometer boost gauge reads. Although, sometimes I wonder if the Autometer is entirely accurate so that may be why they vary a little bit once in a while. I think any of the ebc's give a pretty accurate boost reading.

i had the greddy profec and was pretty accurate. i took it off though because a manual is so much easier to use.

Ditto that. I had the Profec Spec B and the E-01 and both of them usually matched my Autometer guage pretty closely. I also switched back to MBC though (since they work just as well as the EBCs did).

I'm going to use my HKS EVC as a boost gauge. I just wish it was in PSI instead of kPa, but damn I wanted the black one.

the HKS EVC 5 uses an electronic stepper motor that is accurate to 36PSI...

I love everything about this EBC and would like to own one however its way too expensive.

Atlas, I actually prefer a EBC for a number of reasons.

1. It's very easy to change settings in cabin. No need to pop open hood.
2. Most have programmable memory settings for different boost levels.
3. Display memory readouts can be beneficial especially if you need to know your
last peak boost.

I had a Greddy Profec-b spec II on my last vehicle and it worked great. I guess the only con for an EBC is pricing.

Yeah, you can use it as a gauge also. It's not very convenient if you mount it low though.

It can display in kpa or psi, but there is no decimal. So "195" would mean 19.5 psi, etc. It's much harder to read it when you're driving hard than it is to read a pillar mounted analog gauge (again, mine was mounted down low, in the storage cubby area).
