Boost Spiking?!!
hey guys
i have a IX with the following mods:
3" Cat-delete
3" Catback
and a Defi Blackface elect. boost gauge.
my boost is not stable...especialy in lower gears. it spikes to about 20.5 psi and then settles at 19 then spikes back up to 21 and goes back to ~18/19 towards the top of the rpm range.
i am just wondering if this is normal?
i am not tuned yet..i am just waiting for the rest of my mods to get it so that i could get a custom tune towards the end of the month
i am running 98 octane fuel and the car is running smoother than stock..
thanks in advance for the input
Respect

thanks anyways...
anymore takers?
yes it's normal, what you're seeing is the stock boost control solenoid over-reacting when it's opening the wastegate, and then correcting. the fluctuations you describe are well within the "safe relm" and nothing to worry about.

Are you keeping your foot on the pedal? Or are you running over small bumps and will bounce your foot off the pedal? My first mod was a Defi Elec Boost Gauge, second was a test pipe and downpipe. Boost was fine and didn't do anything weird like how yours is doing.

a more stock car will see less boost fluctuation that a car with a freed up exhaust and intake. he has a downpipe, (presumably a turboback exhaust), intake and intercooler pipes. His turbo will spool quicker than the stock ecu is accustomed to reponding, thus leading to a less stable boost curve when contolled by the stock BCS.

my tuner suggested he could control boost via stock ecu's solenoid...hmmm
