ix starter different?
So I had an 03 VIII, now I have an 06 IX. A few noticeable differences include the fact that the starter seems to turn the engine over a lot softer, especially on cold starts, and the ecu seemingly holds the revs higher at cold idle. Anyone else notice this?
Another (nice) noticeable difference is the clutch TOB seems a LOT quieter (not exactly ball bearings in a can anymore) and the x-fer case off-throttle 'grind' is mostly gone, though still detectable at higher rpms in lower gears.

Another thing that's kinda annoying, these seats squeak like crazy!

From the same article nubby posted:
"A revised fuel pump with 7 percent higher capacity also appears in the Lancer Evolution along with a redesigned muffler that enhances the exhaust note at low to mid-range engine speeds."
BTW I can definitely say the new stock muffler is pretty sweet. Sounds menacing under 2k rpms.

I have to say though that article has some misinformation. At times they only talk about RS and MR models, and other times they compare the entire IX line up to the MR specifically... makes no sense.
Notable mis-quotes:
"The Lancer Evolution's MIVEC system operates on the intake camshaft, helping to optimize the engine's valve timing to optimize the combustion in all running conditions. This technology results in more torque and horsepower while improving fuel economy across the entire rev range. The improved breathing afforded by this valve train enhancement moves the engine's redline to 7000 rpm."
Am I nuts or was it 7k on the VIII also?
"The viscous coupling unit (VCU) limited-slip mechanism from the Lancer Evolution's center differential has been replaced by a hydraulic multi-plate clutch in the Evolution MR."
I think they mean to say that the VCU has been replaced by the MR's clutch diff across all Evolutions.

Maybe they mean POWER BAND. The stock redline is indicated at 7000 and will allow you too rev all the way to 7500 before a cutoff but a STOCK 03 would be dead by that rev Range.
The Stock IX however makes great power till 7000.
