Two dealers called me to place order today...
Hi there- I've read a few threads here before, but never posted, but thought you all should know that after placing several calls to GM's of dealerships over the last few months, two called me today (2/26) and said they had been told by Mitsubishi to 'officially' begin taking deposits. The thing I found moderately irritating was that they both wanted me to pay a significant premium over MSRP on top of the deposit; $5000 at Premier Auto Group in Beaverton, Oregon, and $6000 at Dick Hannah Mitsubishi in Vancouver,Washington. Neither had any more specs than have been theorized here previously, nor could either cite a specific MSRP. One actually tried to justify the upcharge by telling me it was to cover the cost of advertising (Ever seen an ad for an EVO?) and the other said he would be charging $10k, but that I had put my name in early so I was 'lucky'... What's the point of the MSRP if the dealer is going to charge $35 or 40K for a 29.9K car? Anyone know of a dealership that is willing to take, oh, say, the MANUFACTURER'S SUGGESTED RETAIL PRICE for a car anymore? It's not a Z8 or a Modena or anything *really* limited production...Just curious if others were having any luck getting the car... or any better information. I'm certainly not paying that kind of absurd tariff to have the first one off the boat, but by God, I will have my Evo VII!!!
These guys are trying to take every penny that can from you. There is nothing anyone can do about it. Its just the law of supply and demand at work. Sit back until the specs and MSRP are clear. Otherwise, if the money is no big deal...you will be one of the first on the block. I am considering moving to Hilsboro, OR to work up at Intel. Would I pay sales tax if I bought the car up there?

Correct about no sales tax in OR. Thanks for the replies and support. I think I may have a deal worked out with a local for swapping ad banner across top of windshield for first car at MSRP. Good deal, or should I drive to Wayzata?

Need MSRP dealer list
First post, hope I don't sound too preachy. Anyway, the EVO VII is on my short list of new cars, and I'm definitely running into great variability regarding pricing with my choices. I have a deposit down on a Mini Cooper S, and my name won't come up on the waiting list until about late Spring 2003 so I have some time to compare other cars. My local Mini dealer has agreed to sell at MSRP even though they could easily sell for much higher with such limited numbers of vehicles available, and they are also the only Mini dealer in Oregon (no local competition).
I also called around looking for Nissan dealers selling the 350Z at MSRP. No go. The three local dealers are all charging at least $5,000 over list to just take my name!
And how about the WRX, that so many compare to the EVO VII? Well, when I was looking into it, I chanced upon a site that lists dealers who have agreed to sell at MSRP: http://www.new-impreza.com/dealers.htm. How about putting together a dealer section here, so we "savvy enthusiasts" know where to go, and can let Joe Poseur go to the stealerships?
What do you think? Sorry if this has already been discussed to death...

I am starting to get REALLY pissed off about this whole ordeal. I have called 20+ dealers, including the one in Norco California on the list in the other forum that CLAIMED to sell at MSRP, and NONE are willing to even talk about selling at MSRP. The best deal I could tentatively negotiate was $2000 over, and that was if I was willing to have the car wear the dealership name on the front and rear windshields!!! I call BULLFISH!!! This is ridiculous and is soiling the name of MItsubishi. Its dealers are gouging its customer base, and I for one will not tolerate this. It's not as though there aren't other options, as Autoweek this week listed a '92 Dodge Viper with 1700 miles, yes that's 1700 miles, canvas still in plastic, for $33,000. I see S4's all the time at 32,000 to 35,000 with very low miles. Mitsubishi sure seems awfully complacent about allowing this sort of nonsense from its front lines. Has anyone considered contacting Mitsubishi directly to attempt to order a car?
