NOT a "For Sale" thread...

I'm having some trouble deciding how to reasonably price my car.

I've approached a dealer or two re: trade-ins and was amazed at how little they offer. Both NADA and Kelley seem unrealistic as well, especially since the dealer offers don't come within 5K of trade-in (low value) from either book.

Evo's aren't too prevalent here in the Seattle area so that might have something to do with it (this is Subie-Town).

Since it's inappropriate to advertise here (BTW, I do agree with that) how about we go this direction: if you were in the market for a car like mine (13K miles), what is a reasonable asking price?

I bought an 05 Evo8 with 12K miles on it for 25K. (I was the middle man) that was purchased 3 months ago. Hope that helps.

One can expect that a dealer will hit the EVO about 2500-3500 back of book. You are always going to be better off selling outright, but that can hard to do. SouthCoast is hitting 06 IX's for a $25K buy-bid. That's strong considering they sell a new one for $28k.

Another point is that you have a bunch of kids owning these cars, and buying these cars.. Their cheap to spend, then cry when they can't get a return.. add to the fact that the cars are generally modified and abused, you can understand the poor resale value in general.
I couldn't imagine what I might get for my 03 if I ever chose to sell it.. The only thing I have going for it is it wasn't abused (how do you prove that anyway? I still have my stock clutch)

Demand for this car will go up over time.. And that should increase value slightly if everyone stops being whining lowballers.. hehe..

With that said, you should pretty easily be able to get 24-24k for it, assuming its unmodified and not modified/returned to stock..

Oh and to be completely honest.. I don't think I'd ever buy one of these cars if it was ever modified, or even if it was being sold by someone younger.. I've seen too many of these cars totally trashed and then sold for top-dollar to someone unsuspecting..

I've seen 2004 EVO SSL with 20k goes for 27k at the dealer, and they sold it for 26.5k in few weeks. My friend is manager at the dealer (Toyota) who sold that car.
I seen quite few EVO 8's on dealer lot going anywhere 23k-29k for EVO 8 depend on mile and year.
You should expect at least 25-26k private in NW region. And I recommend you to remove any modifications, and sell it privately. In that case, I'll take your bov, and mbc.

Kelly Blue book is not inaccurate. Stated price for private sale is what you should expect to get in a private sale. Ditto for trade-in value.

NADA is often higher so dealers trade on Kbb price and resell on NADA.

And by the way you are an evolved member so you are more then welcome to list the car for sale in the Private For Sale section.

I just traded in my 05 EVO GSR w/ 15.5K miles and completely stock (took off all the mods) for 24K at a used car dealer.

This seems to be the consensus though if I were to remove the mods in order to sell then I'd be screwing the buyer, right? Since most of us mod our cars it's reasonable to assume that almost any used Evo was modded at some point even if stock at time of sale.

Call me wacky but I wouldn't feel right about portraying my car as unmodded - if there's damage to do then it's already been done.

It's a karma thing...

BTW, thanks for all of your posts. I've decided to keep the car - what else could I get that's so much fun?
