You'll never see that in the city. But cruising down the freeway you can easily get high mpg so long as you're not boosting like crazy and aren't doing 70+ mph. The faster you go the more the engine has to fight the car's drag, so travelling faster costs you more gas.

I actually only got that one time on a long trip, usually get closer to 22mpg. The 27 was actually on some interstate speeds, around 70mph on half and 55mph on the other half (for the tank) about 2 1/2 - 3 hour drive. That is the only time it got that high, most of the highway miles I will get about 25.5mpg as the highest. That was babied for the 27mpg, just trying for a mpg high!

No residue or leaks, you must not have got your evo brochure, it is normal for your "high performance" engine to use oil. At least it consumption has slowed as it breaks in. Usually notice consumption after being in the turbo more frequently. The S2000 actually used about a 1/4 quart for it's first 3,000 miles, but it has not "used" anymore. To give some credit to evo, the S2000 manual also states it is normal to burn some oil.

what I have seen with my car for the short time I've had it is normal driving = almost no or no oil usage for 2500 miles. A few hard hours at 5-7k rpm = a little oil usage.

Put in a new front motor mount. Then you'll get real rattles.

I actually get a consistant 26mpg with a combo of stop and go highway driving, but I baby the car and try to stay out of boost.

coming from a bmw, I hear a lot of little creaks and rattles due to the difference in car class and suspension.

One of the things i had to learn to tune out.

to the OP, you might have something wrong. I've had two evos and niether of the used oil like yours. Actully my oil level was always full, when It came time to chage it. Also, I change my oil every 2500 miles.

Like I said above, I've had two evos. I put 15.5K miles on the VIII and had no problems besides a little bit of rattly plastic. THe IX now has 9.5 K miles and also, no problems cept a little rattly plastic.

EDIT: Oh yeah, shifter was notchey and rough at first, but that went away on both, right around 7-9K miles.

The few things I have done to the Evo 8 MR after having it for 22 month:

- Change the clutch at 11000 miles
- Change the tires at 10000 miles
- Stock suspension got destroyed beyond recognition when I had the Tein H(2" drop) on my stock Bilstein struts/shocks
- I had to buy a new set of tires and suspension due to the cathastropic damage caused by the cheap *** Tein H springs.
- Change the ACD oil at 11k miles and came black

- Brakes never made noise.
- Shifting was notchy until I put GMshyncromesh
- After putting a Exedy Twin Disc clutch the car is very rough when launching the car slowly in first gear. Car shakes inside and outside(engine) a whole lot when shifting to first gear

Chill dude.....I am sure he was just trying to be helpful! I own a 2003 evo 8 and my car doesn't burn any oil? I am lucky if I add 1/2 quart every 2 months. I guess it also depends on how hard the car is driven also......

it's normal for any engine to consume oil during really hard driving, such as a trackday. If it's consuming abnormally large quantities, I'd be worried, but a 1/4 or 1/2 quart between oil changes is not excessive by any means. Now, if I lost 1/2 quart after only daily driving driving and freeway driving and never hit mid or high boost, I'd be worried.
