I was doing some research and found out that in you install Cams 264/270/ or even 280's you will not pass emmissions. is this true ? if so how is everyone who owns one gonna drive their Evolutions if it doesn't pass emissions other than putting stock ones back on. Costing money that is. Anyhow i really want Cams for the top end performance that i have been hearing about . But without the emissions problems. I guess if i do get it i'll have to deal with it. or it's just not true. and of course does each cam size matter to either you'll pass emissions or not. Eventually i would love to get 264/264 cams or if 264/270 are better i'll probally go with that. anyone running these particular ones because i heard they don't give you any idle problems . i understand my questions here are a bit noobie but just any advice and facts would greatly help thank you .

As long as the cams don't throw any codes (i.e. tuned properly, like mentioned above) and you still have what appears to be a Cat in place, you won't fail emissions. OBD-II cars are not tail-pipe-sniffed, so emissions testing is a visual inspection and then error codes are read.

It also depends on the state you live in. Some towns here in AZ dont even have emissions.

thanks everyone for the feedback. here's another question that i was wondering about. my car is mildly modded tbe, intake, and Ecuteck flashed i was wondering what cams should i choose something simple not too crazy i'm not planning to push the Evo hard just a simple good pick up from top end , by the way i don't have a boost controller and i don't plan on getting one either. So with that said, seeing that i don't have a boost controller is it not neccesary to get cams because i'll just be wasting money or it's ok to get cams with out raising your boost you'll still get decent power out of her. and what cams do you guys recommed such as combo's 264/264 or 264/270 or 270/270 which one is best for my car , again it's really only midly modded. o and feed back on your cams and setup would be nice too. thoses who have roughly about the same setup as me. please include the Brand name too of the Cams

 

what kind of power will i make without a boost controller if i add cams i'm thinking 272/272 HKS , keep in mind my mods are fairly mild , no boost controller , just an intake , exaust , and a Ecuteck Flash. i'm currently running 273whp with what i have i hope to at least see it in the 300whp is it possible with just adding the HKS Cams and not having to raise my boost. Will i likely see thoses number. O yeah my dyno number are from Dyno Dynamics

 

one other thing any draw backs for adding 272/272 HKS cams such as , idling problems . not passing emmsions or will it just be a simple add on with a good tune and my car should run normal . Any one with this set up advices and opinions would defintely help .
