AMS Shootout Report
What a fun weekend it was! We had bunch of little problems that plagued us but we wound up salvaging the weekend and running 2nd in the Quick 16 class. I knew that it was going to be battle to see who goes 8's first that weekend. Buschur and us both started lining up to do passes. The first pass down the track our car starts breaking up. WTF I thought? The car ran great all year and we never had a ignition problem , now this. Well after changing plugs and trying a few things I gave up. We didn't have an extra igntion with us so I though we where screwed. And then the Buscher EVO ran an 8 second pass, of course I wanted us to run it first but I was really happy for them. Dave ran up to me and almost bowled me over with excitement. He thanked me for pushing them to run their car faster and faster and I was truly happy for them. It's a great acomplishment and it's going to make us work had to go faster.
After the smoke settled Dave offered us to try one of his ignition systems. We quickly installed the Buschur ignition and away we went. Eric launched the car hard and we broke a front axle. This didn't stop Eric from keeping his foot in it and he ran the car basically rear wheel drive to a 10.1 at 158mph skating all over the place. The good thing is that the igntion misfire was gone! Thanks to Dave for letting us borrow one if his ignition systems and giving me the dwell settings. A quick scramble to find another axle sent us over to Buschurs place and finally we scavenged one from our friend and customer, Danimal. With that replaced we hit the track for the quick 16 elimination rounds. We made it down to the finals and it was a close race but Marco Passante in the Magnus Talon pulled through. Congrats go to Marco who has put together some really fast passes and gone well into the 8's.
We ran a best of 9.13 at 165.3mph but could not get a decent 60' foot. On the 165.3mph run we where hitting the rev limiter about 200 feet before the traps, so I think we could have had a 167-168mph out of it. We also had some traction issues and you'll see it in upcoming videos. It was hazing the tires the whole way down track, moving from side to side and leaving black marks down the track. We're still running a DOT slick style tire and we're moving up to a full slick to get more traction down the track. With a few more tweaks we're hoping to get trap speeds to 170mph and et's well into the 8's.
Thanks for everyones support and to Dave Buschur for putting on a great event. Also a congrats to Curt Brown. He ran a 9.3 at 152mph on our GT35R kit, an almost unbelievable number.

Martin Musial
