HKS carbon ti defective?

hey guys.

i have an evo 9 MR and recently just bought an HKS carbon ti. and the other day i got it installed in my friends driveway. seeing that it was hitting my rear bumper real bad i put it on a lift at a muffler shop where my friend works. we saw that the catback was hitting the body and mostly the gas tank. do you think i got a defective unit? wat should i do?

thanks guys,

albert

I installed the HKS Carbon-Ti catback in my VIII, did it in my garage and had no problems. Have about an inch or so clearance around the stock bumper. Took a little adjustment to get it there, but have had no problems so far. I can't imagine the IX should be too different. Check to make sure you did the install right, or take it to a shop and let them do it.

i adjusted mine, probably like ten times before i got fed up with it and i couldnt sell it so i just ended up getting custom 3 " piping made to the muffler. at least i dont have the taper at the cat and its 3" now

The problem on mine was the resonator rubs on the driveshaft and almost put two holes in it. Funny thing is that i had the same damn exhuast on my VIII and never had a problem. seems like its a 50/50 with this exhaust, some people have the problems and some do like us. Luck of the draw. > HKS on this one.

I think you need kart-boy hanger. I had my HKS carbon ti and it fits great with kart-boy hanger. But you still need to custom the resonator to make it fit with the driveshaft.

I searched like crazy and tried to find the perfect exhaust for my evo. I thought hks was such a big name because their cams are amazing. However after doing a bit more searching I realized that all HKS exhausts are crap. They are more like toys than a functional exhaust and for the price they sell them for you can get much better for much cheaper. Not only do they not fit right but they neck down to meet the stock cat!

I think you guys are missing a big part of the install. I do believe there is a bracket that you are suppose to bolt up to your chassis that is suppose to come with the HKS exhaust. With-out it the exhaust will fit like crap. So does anyone know where all of us HKS users can find this bracket??

A lot of exhausts neck down to fit the stock cat.... and no they're not all crap. They were made to fit on jdm 7/8s and no modifications were made to them for the 9 so thats why it might fit weird on 9s. I had mine installe and the piping seems to fit perfect. Maybe a picture will help. I dunno, maybe you got a defective one but if its not defective then 15 dollar Cartboy hangers will help out alot as it makes the exhaust sits lower. They dyno very close to buscher's loud *** bullet exhaust and I've found mine to be very reliable... just my .02 cents.
