Shifting above 7k..
Shifting above 7k..
OK so I have a stock Evo 9 MR with a basic road Tune. I'm able to shift at 7800 but I'm a little hesitant to go so high.
If I were to race it at the track would shifting all the way up there even benefit me or is the Turbo not making anypower up there?
Just curious because it seems most people dont like shifting anything above 7k.
Thanks.

Unless you have a bigger turbo and perhaps some high lift 280 cams (take your pick), your pretty much just blowing hot air and causing a lot of useless load on the engine ...

I have a Flashed EVo, Road tuned by Al.
If I want I can shift at 7800 RPms easilly. I thought that was the norm when getting flashed?
Anyways, the Car holds 1.2 sometimes 1.3 bar all the way to redline and it still holds after 7K. it feels like it's pulling all the way to the top.
But again I'm no expert in Evos. I would like to know what Warrtalon or Al have to say about this.
Is shifting up there worth it or am I just wasting time, beacsue if it's not making anymore power then obviously what's the point.
So far everyone is leaning towards shifting at 7k Ish Rpm...

Well perhaps on an AutoX course or a Road course and you are stuck to the point of shifting up just to shift back down in 2secs. It might just be a better choice to run it up a few hundred more rpms. Since the shift is gonna waste atleast 1/2 a second, then to just shift again is like a whole second overall. So in that type of scenario, I would just keep running it up a few hundred more rpms.

I am also been told that reving that high in the power band serves no purpose but creating much not needed HOT air as someone already stated. I think what matters most is how quick and effecient you can shift on the 1/4 mile.
