Shifting above 7k..

OK so I have a stock Evo 9 MR with a basic road Tune. I'm able to shift at 7800 but I'm a little hesitant to go so high.

If I were to race it at the track would shifting all the way up there even benefit me or is the Turbo not making anypower up there?

Just curious because it seems most people dont like shifting anything above 7k.

Thanks.

the red line of the car is 7000, you're overshooting that by more than 10%.

Power drops off after around 7200 on the stock turbo, so that's usually a good shift point or maybe even a little earlier.

do you take out the rev limiter with a basic road tune? because if you are stock evo 9 mr then past 7K rpm the rev limiter kicks in which happened to me a few times. I'm surprised that you got it that high -7800rpm

Actually you will not make any power after 6700-6800 rpm on stock turbo and stock block so there is no reason to rev any higher then that. If you have a built 2.0 that allows you to rev to 10000 rpm then go ahead other wise no need.

1st to 2nd I shift @ 7200rpm
2nd to 3rd I shift @ 7000rpm
3rd to 4th I shift @ 6800 rpm ...

Unless you have a bigger turbo and perhaps some high lift 280 cams (take your pick), your pretty much just blowing hot air and causing a lot of useless load on the engine ...

+1, I have my shift light at 6900 so with reaction and whatnot I am shifting at about 7000-7100...

I have a Flashed EVo, Road tuned by Al.

If I want I can shift at 7800 RPms easilly. I thought that was the norm when getting flashed?

Anyways, the Car holds 1.2 sometimes 1.3 bar all the way to redline and it still holds after 7K. it feels like it's pulling all the way to the top.

But again I'm no expert in Evos. I would like to know what Warrtalon or Al have to say about this.

Is shifting up there worth it or am I just wasting time, beacsue if it's not making anymore power then obviously what's the point.

So far everyone is leaning towards shifting at 7k Ish Rpm...

I think 7100 if you have stock cams and stock turbo.

Well perhaps on an AutoX course or a Road course and you are stuck to the point of shifting up just to shift back down in 2secs. It might just be a better choice to run it up a few hundred more rpms. Since the shift is gonna waste atleast 1/2 a second, then to just shift again is like a whole second overall. So in that type of scenario, I would just keep running it up a few hundred more rpms.

I am also been told that reving that high in the power band serves no purpose but creating much not needed HOT air as someone already stated. I think what matters most is how quick and effecient you can shift on the 1/4 mile.
