Traded my E36 M3 coupe for my EVO cause it had AWD and four doors and I was sick and tired of paying for BMW scheduled maintenance and high taxes. I don't miss it abit. Changed my spark plugs this morning on the EVO. I do all the maintenance and mods on my EVO. It's fun. I would not do it on the BMW other than change the oil. It was just too complicated, I was scared I'd screw something up and have to take out a loan to get it fixed. Very pricey to mod also.

Check the forums, buy a used EVO from one of our members. Save some money, have some fun.

Good luck,
John

after coming from a WRX I can say the evo is much stronger. the sti is also very strong. the WRX tranny is made out of glass. there are plenty of STi owners that couldn't live without cruise control. i'm glad my car doesn't have cruise control cause that keeps the general public away. evo looks better than the subarus. BMW owners are too cool. plus to make an M3 fast it takes serious money. For the money this is a best car to get. I considered all options like a used Z06, e46 M3, lotus elise.

If you want a nice luxury ride and fast...I say pick the B5 2000-2001 S4 with the bi-turbos They range from 23K for the low mileage ones and 18k for the high mileage ones..... My cousin raced one (his mods are TBE and MBC, IX MR) and he got manhandled over and over again (S4 had bi-turbo upgrades. Dude said he was running 400hp on pump and around 520hp on race gas)....though I think for turbo upgrades it's like near 8k for the whole kit.

Otherwise, go with EVO. Can't go wrong with it....everytime you hear that turbo spool up on the evo it'll bring a nice big smile on your face everytime!!

yep, cf roof, thinner glass, a plastic trunk, no AC, no radio, the floor of the trunk is cardboard!!!! and the best thing about the car....

YOU HAVE TO SIGN A WAVER WHEN YOU BUY IT, saying that you understand that the tires that come with it will not work in the rain or if its cold, its a bad *** car

Compare to the STi? Yes. In general... no. To bad it's back by mitsubishi. You never heard, 'damn, sucks that toyota makes the supra' or 'screw nissan for producing the skyline'...

+1

When it comes to all out performace the New C6 Z06 is pretty much at the top of the list. Factor in price and it can't be beat.

It's not all about power or how fast the test car is it's the whole package. The C6 Z06 was able to run 7:42 on the nurburgring ring in germany. The EVO IX did pretty well also with a 8:11 time.

Come on, the STI falls into the exact same category as the EVO. They're similarly featured and similarly priced and have similar performance.

Seriously.

The more statements like, "No other car compares to the EVO", the more ignorant this whole forum looks to newcomers. The evo is a great performance car, especially for the price. But come on..

Oh.. and half a minute off in the Nurburg ring is pretty bad.

Actually he was right the only subies that could be classified as rally cars are the pre 06 WRX. The US Subie STI IMO doesn't qualify to be classified as a rally car. The engine is too large. WRC rules state that the engine can't be larger than 2 liters. The US sti is has a 2.5 and so does the 06 WRX. So currently their no other AWD rally cars sold in the US.

So he's right. There are "No other car {sold in the US} falls in the same category as an EVO, especially {a 2006 model} the IX".

Since your looking at the M3, What about an AMG C32 or C55.

30ish thousand dollar, compact, 4 door, turbocharged 4 cylinder powered all wheel drive car. Seems to be similar to me. I don't rally my evo though.. The market does not go by racing rules or eligibility to determine what class cars are placed in.
