bog, burn clutch , bog, burn clutch...
bog, burn clutch , bog, burn clutch...
I can't seem to get it right.
I usually bog from a stop, and then "re-clutch" to get going, but it spins the (stock) clutch then, and I have to back out of the gas before it turns into smoke.
Accellerating onto a street from a right hand turn is much easier, I'm guessing because I can get one wheel to spin a little, but straight ahead from a dead stop is pretty hard to do (quickly).
I suppose I'll have to look around for a clutch disk that'll grab a little better and not spin...

Some say that removing the restrictor pill in the clutch line can make things a little easier, but I haven't personally tried that. I don't launch my car.... any racing happens from a rolling start for me. 33K on the stock clutch so far.
Give it 500rpms more gas than usual. It might take a little getting used to, but soon your foot will automatically go down a little further. If it still bogs, use more gas till you get it right.
LOL no, not first stick car. I am 35, and have had lots of stick cars.
I am not talking about normal driving. I am talking about hard launching. I had a high hp wrx with a 11 lb flywheel that was easier to launch than this car.
the fact that the car dies at 5500 rpm at a standstill doesn't seem to help, but I suppose lauched above that it would just burn the clutch anyway...

You really need to learn to modulate the clutch/accelerator better. It isn't an all-or-nothing type of deal with the clutch as so many people seem to think. You need to let out on the clutch until you can feel it engage then release it more while feeding it more throttle.
Your WRX was probably easier because it had more torque at lower rpms. The more torque a car has the easier it is to start out because the car will do the work instead of the driver. On the Evo there is little torque so you have to use skill to launch the car.

My stock WRX was much, much easier to launch than the EVO. I always attributed it to the tires, but it was probably related to the clutch also. The stock all season rubber would light up the front tires for a half second as it transferred torque to the rear (rears never spun). The result was a super fast launch that never once left me smelling a stinky clutch.
Heck, there was so much cold-clutch chatter on that car that I *had* to launch like this every few weeks as a maintenance item.
After I'd do a launch, it wouldn't chatter for a good while.

I have about 22k on my stock cluctch and I do not launch in my EVO either.
If you have the 06 like your sig says then you have the restrictor pill in place which makes it much harder to launch without some finess...first off launching with the stock 2 step is tough because you usually bog. Pull off slower and it slips...what I have found is that you need to stand on the 2 step with the gas pedal to the floor and slowly pull back on the clutch until you feel a quick little chatter, not enough to move you but enough to feel it in the pedal, thats where you want to release the clutch quick from....right when it chatters I pull off and I spin all 4 for a split second.

yeah the WRX had tons more low end torque (built STI motor), plus the wheels would spin, making it easier to get going in a hurry (they would actually spin mid pull in 3rd gear if I wans't going completely straight ahead
)
It took me a few minutes to get used to The HUGE first gear on my MR, but what i did is held the Rpms at 1500 and rode the clutch for like half a second and the car doesn't bog or burn clutch. All wheel drive plus big first gear means lots of bogging. Youll get use to it in a few days.
Ohh If your Trying to launch it, umm I haven't figured thatout either. soo where is this restricter Pill.
