Unhappy No Respect

If anyone want to know the real scoop on EVO's and the business of running a dealership (invoice, sales practices, etc...) then take my post seriously. I am a proud EVO owner and also the General Manager of a Mitsubishi dealership owned by my family. For starters, the dealer invoice price is NOT below 28K. There are no incentives or rebates and how long we have the car has absolutley nothing to do with any kick backs paid to us by Mitsu. We get around $500 in hold back money-long term but we also pay interest for every month an EVO or any other vehicle sits on our lots. After we pay interest on the vehicle, advertise it and pay a sales person $3-500...how much over invoice should a dealership make??? You have no idea how frustrating it can be to be in an industry where the manufacturer continues to cut our profit margin and the customer seems to be under the impression that we a a non profit organization. What is a fair percentage. How much do you think was made off of your last purchase ANYWHERE be it a stereo, couch or home. I think 10% is a very low and fair number which means I would have to sell the vehicle for ABOVE MSRP. Also consider the fact that the majority of MITSU dealerships are no doubt failing to make a profit for the year as we enter May. You may want to reconsider just how greedy you guys think we are. Oh, I have been on your MSRP list since the 1st week we recieved the vehicles and I have sold 5 at this point

Mits Man, you "sound" like a straight shooter to me. The EVO's MSRP is about 29K. I imagine logically that a profit is built into the MSRP. Now the grey area is what is a "FAIR" profit for you guys to make in the deal. I really find it hard for dealers to justify several thousand dollars in markup. That is what I call greedy. Good luck selling your vehicles. In an ideal world the EVO's would have been sold for at most MSRP in the first place and you guys would have waiting lists up the yin-yang. " 29K for all that...I can't believe it!!!" But in reality dealers played on the hype and most likely turned off alot of customers. Afterall, the car is marketed at folks who I would go out on a limb to say are pretty computer savvy and know how to research a vehicle on the internet before they make a heck of an investment in money. This site being the definitive resource for the EVO IMO , I am sure people are aware of what is up. I for one do not have the extra money to be padding dealers pockets on a car that does not cost as much from one place to another My .04

There is no way your dealership is paying over $28K for the Evo, just not true. Look at your "real invoice"

Thease are some figures I reserched, remember this is a base Evolution without any options.

BASE MSRP: $28,987.00

INVOICE: $26,891.00.

DEALER COST (2% holdback rate off of the base MSRP): $26,311.00

How can you be complaining about making $2,676.00 for selling a Base Evo for MSRP?

Then why does Kelly Blue Book list the base price as $26891?

I have bought 2 other cars (Not the EVO) using KBB, and the #s have always been dead on!

Mitsubishi LANCER EVOLUTION AWD
LE41-B Sedan 4D (5-Spd.)

BASE INVOICE = 26891.47
BASE RETAIL BASE PRICING = 28987.00
Destination Charge 595.00
BASE INVOICE With Destination Charge = 27486.47
Base Model Price With Destination Charge = 29582.00

Wow Mits Man, it sounds like you are trying to convince me that you have to make above MSRP just to make a profit. Heh.

>> Also consider the fact that the majority of MITSU dealerships are no doubt failing to make a profit for the year as we enter May. <<

Some of these dealerships would probably have improved profitability if they focused on building a relationship and respect with their customers, instead of pi$$ing them off with 3-10K markups and arrogant attitudes. Most customers are willing to give a dealer a "reasonable" profit (i.e. somewhere between invoice and MSRP), but $3-10K over MSRP is not even close to reasonable. It's greedy, period.

>> You may want to reconsider just how greedy you guys think we are. <<

No...no, I'm pretty confident about that. There is this list of boycotted dealerships to prove it: I'm A Greedy Dealer List . The fact that you are not on this list is a good thing and I applaud you for it!

That's a silly question, don't you know, the biggest BSer is the one who moves the most cr*p, so obviously he made GM because he's got the natural talent of piling it high and deep. Especially the GM of a dealer, you can't be anymore pond scum then that. It's amazing how often car salespeople lie, they start to believe their own lies and live in an alternate reality. But hey, their job is to make money and our job is to get the car for the cheapest price, so how do you deal with it? Go to a dealer like and don't listen to a thing they say, just make the deal and tell em you hope their children can eat tonight.

Another thing is that a lot of dealers weren't even willing to accept orders at anywhere close to MSRP months before the invoice/MSRP prices had even been announced or known! This just adds to the preconception about the greed of the dealerships.

Here's a more positive one:

Senders Name: Todd Cahan
Message: I just wanted to let you know you have a fantastic site here. I have heard of its existance for a while but have not had an opportunity to check it out until now... VERY NICE.

I am the General Manager of Max Madsen Mitsubishi (Downers Grove). I would love to recommend your site to our customers but first please allow me to correct your information pertaining to pricing. We DO NOT CHARGE over MSRP unless there are additional accessories added that would add to the price - we have plenty of them in stock both with and without factory accessories.

Please remove us from your boycotted dealer list so I can provide your site as a valuable resource to our shoppers. Also, if you are going to reference our dealer information anywhere he is the correct info:

Max Madsen Mitsubishi
2424 Ogden Ave
Downers Grove, IL 60515

Another positive:

Senders Name: Eddie Flores
Message: Hi Evolutionm.net,

My name is Eddie Flores and I'm the Internet Manager at Kendall Mitsubishi in Miami, Florida. I would like to add our dealer to your MSRP list and be taken off the boycott list.

We have been the #1 Volume dealer in the Southeast U.S.A. for the pasted 3
years. We were lucky enough to have had the largest allocation of Evos in
the Southeast US.

Today, on a call to my General Manager from the head guys at MMSA, we were inform that we had been choosen to have as many Evos as we wanted upon request. My GM is part of Mitsubishi's product cousel and he is also good freinds with all the head guys at Mitsubishi. He was one of the first to actually see the Evo and other new cars Mitsubishi is going to be releasing in the next months to come. The GM has informed me and the rest of the sales staff that we are permitted to sell the Evos at MSRP. We can get as many as we possibly want, so please make your members aware of this. We can obtain any color in a matter of days.

Please, call me if you have any questions about this. My cell number is
(305) 342-5702 and my office number is (305) 669-2007. My website address is WWW.KENDALLMITSUBISHI.COM. Please, make sure to list my name as i'm the one that will be handling your members.

Respectfully,
Eddie Flores
