Evo PRoblem

Hey guys,

I had a problem w/ the evo today. I haven't drove it since Monday and the car is garage kept. It's an 05 w/ 11k milage on it. Most of the miles are from the first few months I have had it. Bought the car last October. So here is the problem:

I pulled out the garage today and starting driving down my street at about 10-15mph and noticed a thumping noice like a tire makes when it's flat. Got out of the car and no tires were flat. I tried to see if maybe a lug nut was loose, but that was negative also.

So i take off slowly and hear it again, so i stop and get the girlfriend to open the door while i'm driving slowly to see if she can see or hear something a little more clearer. NOTHING. So i turn around and head back to the garage and pull car to garage and see black smoke coming out the tailpipe (car is off).

I was trying to make it to a friends house and was running late so i took my other car. Came home and checked the oil or to see if maybe one of my pipes popped off (boost leak). None of the above. I turned the car on and reved to about 3 K w/ no weird noises. Anybody have the same problem? Any help would be helpful before i send it to the stealership?

Sorry for the long post but i did make paragraphs. Also car is COMPLETELY STOCK!
Jason

i think its just normal...everything just kinda 'settles' when the car sits around for too long and the motor doesn't run.

No this is definately not normal. I left my car sitting for a few weeks while on vacation and she ran just as well as the day I left. Maybe something got stuck to your wheels or driveshaft. You should take it to a mechanic to take a look.

It is still under warranty, so drive it around a little, and if it continues take it to the dealer.

Called my father who owns his own mechanic shop and has like 32 years mechanic experience but lives 35 miles away said it doesn't sound like a engine problem. He said to check the tires of something stuck in tire ( i did the glance check last night but nothing). Will keep everyone updated.

Yes it's still under warranty but you know how that goes. Maybe they will void my warranty for a shorty antenna and window tint. LOL

Bump for more suggestions. Also i went on vacation a few weeks ago and it sat for 8 days withouth a problem.

Maybe you should take it to a dealership. You wouldn't want to be stranded someone far from your home.

It depends on the temp believe it ot not! I used to hear the same thumping sound when I drove my car in the morning. I had the YoKO advans on... when it got warm it went away. Those tires are excellent IN WARM WEATHER!!

The thumping noise you hear is most likely because your tires have flat spotted due to sitting for a few days. Why you didn't experiance this when you went on vacation, I dont know. But this isnt uncommon, just drive it around a little and it will go away.

Drove it around slowly and still heard the thumping coming from the rear, most likely the passenger rear. After a while the car stopped making the noise. No black smoke coming from the tailpipe. Not sure it's the tires from "flat spots". I drive my civic to work alot and the evo sits for a few days each week. Anyway, i believe it is located somewhere with the tires/wheels/rotor area. Will take to shop and put up on lift to make sure everything is ok tomorrow. Thanks for the help fella's.

Most likely it was your tires that was not warmed up.
