When will the EVO 9 be released?
When will the EVO 9 be released?
How long does an EVO style normally last. Does Mitsu just make a new EVO every year or do they last at least a year or two. The reason I ask is because I will be pissed if a new EVO comes out less than a year of my owning this one. I would like to see them treat the EVO as most cars in America. 5 year run in production with only minor changes into the second or third year of production then complete remodel after 5th year. This whole new EVO every year would really be a pisser. For spending 31K I would like my car to be the newest thing for more than 11 months. Just my thoughts........
The Evolutions up to VIII pretty much all lasted about 2 years. This isn't a normal production car focused at getting profits from mass production. This might be the reason why Evolutions change about every 2 years.
Is there any truth to the speculation that they will offer the EVO 9 next year as a 2004 model? Or do people think it is more likely that they will offer a different/faster version to take on the HP war with the STI maybe a RAlliart version? Just wondering what people have heard, seems like there is no new information about the next generation of this car anywhere!

Re: When will the EVO 9 be released?
1-2 years, though it might be more like 2 now that it's a "production" car more than a motorsports car. Check out http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.jp/m...ry/90s/90.html if you want to see the history of the Evo. The first few evolutions happened almost yearly. The VI and VII seem to have a little more longevity, with the VI getting help from the TME.
Has anyone heard any info on the Evo8 RS for the US? I've heard 'rumors' about a US Evo 8 with AYC/ACD, 6SPD, 330 HP, etc. coming out the end of this year
I'd really like to find out, since my Evo won't be in for a few weeks, and I would consider waiting for the other one. I think someone here posted about putting $$ down on a 6SPD US version...

It would be stupid for
To change gears and totally discard everything about the current EVo platform in favor of a new lighter platfor. Besides, the american market has always wanted larger powerful cars. Think Camaro, or Mustang. If
changes the platform, they will be damaging the new cult status of the EVO that will have been developed in the short year or two it has been here.

Ugggg, I hope this isn't the case. I'll be upset if I get my Evo now (which I've wanted for many years) only to be one-uped 6 months from now with a higher model

And correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this Evo the last Evo? Won't they change ships and use the Colt platform instead?

supposingly, they are to bring back that platform, I've seen the spy photos of it, and it's sort of on the 206/C5/Focus type of hatchback.
I think maybe they'll continue to make Evo's on the street, but the colt for rally? I don't really know. Looking at Mitsu's ads for the EVO, you'd swear it'll be their new flagship car- I mean
is insane about it. At least that's the impression I get.
The Evo as a true Group A homolgation special car ended with the VI. After the VI TME, Mitsubishi began competing in the WRC class, which requires only 50 vehicles to be produced to obtain homologation. Even with this, Mitsubishi still brought out an Evo VII and Evo VIII. There are probably two reasons for this, Group N and the consumer.
The Lancer Evo has a great reputation going and is doing okay as a production car, helping to boost the image of the comapny. Also, Group N requires 5000 cars to be produced to obtain homologation, and Mitsubishi has plenty of private rally teams worldwide that still want to campaign Evos, even if Mitsubishi isn't running a factory effort in the WRC.
That said, even if the Mitsubishi factory effort in WRC goes to the Colt platform (which they say will not happen in time for their return next year), there will probably be enough demand from the public and from private race teams to warrant production of the Lancer Evolution for a while longer.

I feel production of the Lancer platform would skyrocket if they put out a base EVO, as I stated in my thread in the off topic forum, something to compete with the base WRX, maybe an OZ with AWD and the 4g63, without all the other goodies, and price it in the low 20's. I know I would jump at that, and wouldn't have to bust my *** to afford one.
No the E8 is not the final, what I heard couple of weeks ago is the next Evo may be called the Evo IX Final Edition.
I read/heard from local newspapers here few months back that the Cedia platform Evo will still be used for next year's WRC. As 1 year isn't enough time for them to prepare the Colt Evo for WRC.

I am really happy that Mitsu decided to finnally realese the Evo hear.. and I'd be pissed if after 2 yrs they discontinued it.. why do they have to do that.. personally i think they should only discontinue the car once they've got the max output of the engine n the curent body..and it doesn't seem they've done that yet.. so i hope they dont do that.. it'd be kinda cool cuz then we'd have limited edition cars kinda.. but still.. i wanan see the evolution evolve to its max..
