What is a good octane# for an untuned evo??

I do have a dynoflash reflash. I dont know if it was tuned for 91 or 93 pump gas. I plan on going to the track again soon. But this time i want to run some sunnoco race gas unleaded. They have many octanes available. What do you guys recommend since im not tuned for race gas? What PSI should i bump it up to? I do not have ARP headstuds. Is there even a benefit for me? Hopefully this time i can break into the 7's at the 1/8 mile dragstrip.

You could run 100 octane. I wouldnt boost it over 23 lbs all the time without head studs. Though you probably could on 100 octane. You should have a wideband to monitor A/F's as well

I don't think Al flashes for octane I thought thats only the custom tunes. When He did mine awhile back he never asked about the octane.

If your racing on a road course I would run 100 or higher and set my boost between 19-20 psi as cheap insurance. i recently was driving on a very agressive road with 318 curves in 11 mi (the Dragon), I was running 3 parts 110 to 1 part 93 w/ 25 psi of boost, but my car was tuned for 21.5 on 93 oct(i have head studs)

Well your probably right. He never mentioned it either to our group. After he walked away with our ecu's, we were like "is he flashing with 93 in mind?" We asked him when he came back and he nodded his head saying yes. I guess i'll try 100 octane to be safe. And i'll leave the boost the same at 22psi.

You'll be wasting your money if you dump in 100 octane and don't raise your boost for the drag strip.

So running race gas alone dont do anything for acceleration without raising the boost? Wouldnt it help eliminate knock or something like that?

1st...anytime you flash it has to be for a specific oct. othwise what do you tune AFRs to?
2nd...going higher octane is generally a safe way to do things, but too rich and youll effectively clean off your cylinder walls of oil.

Man, the last thing I would do if I wasn't sure about the tune of my car is raise the boost take it to the track and beat on it - but that's just me.

If you were knocking in the first place on pump gas, then yes it will help. You'll need to raise the boost if you want to take advantage of the higher octane though.
