Same principle as a super charger, cept ran off exhaust gases instead of a belt connected to a crankshaft pully

The FULL name for a Turbo is "Turbo-Super Charger"

because its run off of a "turbine". A turbo is two parts. A turbine housing, and compresser housing.

The turbine housing, houses the turbine wheel, which is connected to the exhaust and spun via exhaust gases. The waste-gate is connected to this can be internal or external, this sets how much boost you run by letting gas through or letting it out. The faster it spins, the more boost you get. This is ALSO why you get "Turbo Lag" when you 1st take off, because theres not enough exhaust gas to spin that turbine wheel fast enough to make boost.

The compresser housing houses the compresser wheel, which is connected to the intake and takes in air at a faster rate.

Since the compresser wheel is connected to the turbine wheel by a shaft, the faster the turbine spins, the more the compresser side takes in.

Turbine wheel is typically bigger then compresser wheel.

Your blow off valve is also on the intake side, it release or recirclulates(in stock mitsu cases) the excess air that dident make it into the cylinders.

Heat powers the turbo as much if not more than just exhaust flow. It's a combination of the both.

This is a good point, and is why retarding the ignition timing in the lower RPM band tends to help turbos spool quicker as retarded timing increases heat.
