O2 Sim???

When I bought my car there was no rear 02 sensor, the wires themselves were cut. So to get rid of my SES light, do I have to buy a seosor from Mitsu or get a bosch?? I know once I get a sensor I can do the spark plug anti-fouler trick, but is there another way to fix this without the sensor itself??

If and when you do the SP anti-fouler trick, Use a 31/64 drill bit to drill out the center instead of a 1/2". The tighter tolerance helps keep that pesky SES light from coming on from time to time.

i believe perrin has an electronic 02 simulator for about $80, but it might not work without a closed circuit (without the 02 sensor being there)

You will need some sort of o2 sensor to close the circuit (as mentioned above).

That being said, get a universal Bosch unit for 50 bucks instead of the OEM one that is the same for 300 bucks.

Just make sure the universal one has 4 wires and you know which one goes to which.

OK, went to NAPA. The only universal Bosch unit that was listed for my EVO was the before cat sensor??? Part # 15730 ($61.99). Then we looked under the normal Lancer and found a universal secondary sensor, part # 15733 ($82.95). Will either of these work??

Edit: Both units have the same four wires.

I took both out of box, and the 15730 (Before Cat for the Evo) sensor itself was much larger than the 15733 (Lancer). And the 15733 for the lancer, is listed as Before Cat and After.

Does anyone know which one I need to get. I can't see paying $250 - $275 for an O2 sensor if one of these will work.

What you can do is:

1. Buy an 02 sim and plug your secondary 02 sensor bung if not plugged already.
2. Copy the heater signal from your primary 02 sensor by taking your secondary heater wire going into the ECU and splicing it into your primary heater wire. This fakes your ECU into thinking it has 2 02 sensors plugged into the exhaust.
(I am working on step 2 but am looking for more detailed wiring diagrams...so if you have any that would be a great help)

According to this ecu pinout:
Pin 58 and 60 are the heater wires for primary and secondary 02 sensors.
