sweet - it would give me a peace of mind if you would kindly get rear ended 'accidentally' and take pics of the crash beam afterwards...

Yes, you could get one from chromoly, but it would only cut about 3 to 4 pounds off the total weight (.120 wall is 1.75 lb/ft and .083 is 1.25lb/ft). The added cost for the chromoly would make the change rather expensive for the weight savings. If you wanted to know the exact change in cost I will ask. Let me know.

hmm... Any way to add an extension to also cover the lower part? Like on the illustration. Slanted towards the car, sitting behind the license place mount to clear the curving of the bumper. The US crash beam is there for the 5mph crash requirements here in the US. Anything else and it will not help. This bar, by the looks of it, will handle 5mph no problem. If you can get this extension it would be perfect.

What would the Insurance company actually do if you didnt have the bar? or Does it even matter if you have a non-offical bar?

I doubt the insurance company would even know if its not the oem piece. If you get into a fender bender its not like their going to pull out some tools and check. As long as you dont spill the beans about it I would think you would be fine..
