Evos in the Snow: Chains Required?
If you plan to get chains or cables, invest in Spyders instead. They work well, are easy to install, can be taken off with a click, and are really reliable. Its almost impossible for Spyders to damage you car.

Thanks,
just get some good all season tires that are more snow oriented and you'll be ok. i live in the sierra mountains where we get tons of snow and my kuhmo asx's have served me fine for the last two seasons. ...a lot of it is also in driving ability too though
Just get a set of good all-seasons tires and you should be good to go...
I think snow tires are overkill on the evo and have had no problems with my all-seasons in 8 inches of unpacked snow, and have never gotten stuck during any of my snowy commutes during the winter.

I said why does my car have a snow setting to change how much power goes to each well. He looked at the dash and said go on. On a side note I have scraped up my rocker panels from going thru to much snow. The evo is only good for about 10 of fresh snow. If others have gone before you and groves are frozen you will scratch your car. Snow tires give you great traction but when you start snowplowing your front end things get pretty hairy. Side note advans are like slicks in the snow.
the torque split doesn't change from 50/50 unlike the STi DCCD which does change the torque split to more power to the rear.

I ran blizzak ws 50's last year and they are awesome! I live in Tahoe and was always confident I would get to where I needed to go. VERY good traction on ice or in the snow. They should probably last another 2-3 winters too. Good choice Evo8zip!
Just get some snow tires and you will be amazed at the power of AWD. The Hankook Ice Bear W300 is a great snow tire and is quite a bit cheaper than the other high end tires. I think they are about $110 per tire from discounttire
