I'm just curious because it was recently posted that a single Recaro leather seat costs a little shy of $4,000. So right there you have, say, $10,000 in seats. Would anyone care to hazard a ballpark guess as to how much, say, an Evo IX with SSL would cost if each individual part had to be purchased separately from ?

I thought the same thing...my 03 seats were $3950.00 each for dealer warranty costs! That would make the car, about $2645976.35, if bought part by part?

In general, I've read it would cost someone 4-5 times the price of the car if they were to buy the individual parts themselved and attempt to build it. So a $30,000 car would cost $120,000 - $150,000 approximately. It all has to do with retailing and economies of scale.

it would be insanely expensive since there are no real replica parts for the evo...everything would have to be bought from mitsubishi...

Very interesting - thanks. Guess I got a pretty good deal buying it prebuilt from the factory after all.

It looks like once again some of you misunderstood the the scope of this little mental exercise. A better question would be how much would it cost to convert a base lancer into an Evo. If you take it all the way back like some of you implied it would be impossiable to make because you could never mine and process the ore of all the metal parts by your self.

this is interesting, normally you'd think it would be cheaper to buy single parts and put them together yourself since you wont pay for labor, i wonder why its all retailed so expensive

Honda s2000 seats are around 5k each, we also look up a long block for a nsx and it was 26k. Older honda stuff can get really expensive!

My guess is 250k if all parts are dealer sourced.

Wheels are 800 each too!
