OIl smell at stoplight on 21k 8????

hey guys, I need some help to find out what is going on with my car, The Problem is that when I stop at a stoplight I smell burning oil. It does not matter if Im driving hard or easy and my car has 21k on it so its not the new car burning metal smell. I'm not lossing a noticable amount of oil and I do not have black smoke blowing out of my exhaust either. Its just that everytime I stop at a light I smell buring oil. I took it to suncoast for my last oil change and had them check under the car to make sure everything was clean and they said they seen nothing that stood out to them. They said that it was possiably my turbo buring oil which I do not understand since the problem happens when I build no boost at all since cranking. Just wanted to see if anyone has had this problem and if so If I could get some help.mods are drop in filter and TBE..thanks, Brandon

does it smell like oil coming out the exhaust or under the hood? be a little more specific, it could be tons of things, from turbo oil seals to a leak dripping on your downpipe from the TC.

smells like its coming from under the hood..I happens no matter what Im doing..weather I baby it and build no boost at all or I dog it...I only smell it at stops like say I drive a block and then stop at a stoplight..I smell it and I know its me...I do not have puddles of oil under the car..I check everytime I sit it over night..and I do not smell or see anything coming from exhaust that indicates burning oil..

i used to have that problem after i changed my exhaust. Now that I've added a few extra goodies, the smell is gone. i don't know what the hell it was. I think it was the turbo burning oil, but not quite sure. I don't know why it just quit.

It could be leaking around the head...look under your exhaust manifold.

First of all Oil burns blue. If you have a blue tinted smoke coming out of your exhaust then that would be oil burning. That could be for a number of reasons (Turbo seals being bad could cause this) So could valve stem seals. If you are smelling burning oil then that means the oil is hitting something hot. Check your Oil return line off of the turbo it could be dripping a little and hitting the downpipe. It is the line from the turbo to the oil pan. How much oil are you going through till each change? Thats another question. Sound to me like a small leak making its way to the downpipe etc. Just look around for the leaks.

i would also check the transfer case plugs and passenger side axles where it meets the transfer case. could be a loose plug or axle seal. you haven't recently had a clutch installed did you? if they didn't make sure the o-ring was there between the TC and trans it will leak some from between the trans and transfer case and probrably drip on the downpipe. i'd check this stuff ASAP cause i'm sure you know what happens if there's no fluid in your transfer case...it's toast.

Most likely it is from the turbo blow-by. I get it too, and i've noticed that after i change the air filter (HKS Suction) and clean out the oil from the intake pipe it goes away for a while. I also dont have any leaks anywhere else. So it is the only thing I can think of.

Check all your fluid levels; engine, transfer case and transmission. If no fluid is missing then I'd suggest your nose is working overtime. See https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=234688
for what can be the result of a small leak.
