Challenged by a 300zx today

After sitting at a stoplight I turned onto a four lane (not an interstate, but a divided 4lane highway)and immediately noticed that I had a black 300Zx hanging off of my rear.

I accelerated around some slower traffic with the Z behind me, then after clearing the last car I went wot. I immediately pulled away from the guy and then slowed and pulled into the right lane as he came up from behind.

The guy glanced over as he roared by then slowed for a roll-on run. I noted that the car had been totally debadged, but sported two huge exhaust cans sprouting from the rear of the Z. The car sounded pretty nice. I couldn't tell if it was a TT or not?? I am sure the Z fans will say it was an NA car, but I am not so sure as the car definitely ran strongly.

There was no traffic ahead whatsoever, so it was really a nice opportunity. He was blipping his throttle then letting off a little, so I met the challenge and dropped the hammer. The Z was actually pulling pretty hard, but I immediately edged past him at a pretty decent clip. The Z driver kept it pinned, but nodded in defeat as I passed, gaining 4-5 car lengths before we both let off. He ended-up exiting onto a side road with a wave, and that was that!

I guess getting an opportunity to run against an EVO must be a pretty slim likelihood. I think this is why so many people want to challenge you. Kind of like being a big guy who always gets challenged to bar fights;-)

BTW-My car is still stock.

TT spotters guide:
-Rear spoiler
-Front air inlets for intercoolers, 3 slits in fascia each side below lights

There are other more subtle things, but thats the two obvious ones. Good kill regardless.

Nice Kill I just sold a 300TT that ran 12.6's @ 113 with just a filter/exhaust/ecu at 15lbs and ran 11.8's @123 w the nos. It was a monster when racing from a roll. That being said if it was a near stock TT that you raced it could be possible as many of the older TT's out there now aren't really running it tip top shape. Or it could've been a modded NA which will make about 260hp with intake/ecu/exhaust ( which sounds about right in line with what you raced)...being that you have a few more ponies and about 300lbs less weight.

Can't wait till I get mine. Good Job.

Must have been a N/A, the TT models pull like no tomorrow from a roll. You couldn’t have pulled 4-5 lengths if he was trying and if you were stock.

From: houston tx,
^^^ if it was a poorly running TT it could have been pulled on. especially now that 300zxes are getting somewhat old. The turbos are starting to go. From a roll though, it would be hard as hell for an evo to beat a modded TT 300zx thats running well... It was probbaly a heavily modified NA.

Yeah it is possible/probable that it was a modded NA car. It definitely had an aftermarket exhaust and I can't imagine a TT with an aftermarket exhaust running stock boost, etc.... .I will definitely remember to use the spotters guide next time..that will be helpful!! Hey it was still a fun run!!

I am pretty careful about picking my races so I am glad it turned-out as it did. I know the TT 300Zx and Supras (in particular) can be formidable when modded. In fact the last race I lost was my Syclone against a modded Supra. It was a standing-start, and I jumped him up to around 75-80mph then watched helplessly as the Supra howled past me with relative ease!!
