CEL question

Hi guys, I've just gotten my hands on an EUDM Lancer Evolution VIII MR (RS). The car came with a Blitz panel air filter and a Blitz 3" catback exhaust system.

I have just done a cat delete (with anti-fouler), added a HKS 2.75" downpipe, a HPI cone air intake, and a GReddy Type-RS BOV. The car has started throwing a CEL and no one here seems to have a scantool that would allow me to establish the nature of the CEL.

I've tried searching the forum but have not been able to locate any information related to CELs caused by the Type-RS and the HPI intake (similar to the AEM SRI, without the hard pipe).

The anti-fouler has taken the O2 sensor that was connected to the catback 2mm behind the inner circumfrence of the test pipe, so I'm not suspecting that at the moment.

The CEL happens even without WOT or hard driving. I'm starting to suspect that it is likely to be the intake that is causing the problem, based on the occurrence of one CEL thrown while I was driving easy (not/barely boosting - BOV not triggered), but I would like to find out if any of you have experienced a similar problem and what the likely cause of the problem is.

I have just (just over an hour ago) pulled the battery and left it disconnected for over 30 minutes, reconnected the battery, let the car idle for 10 minutes, then driven it out hard for 10 minutes to provoke another occurrence of the CEL. No CEL, but I have just let the idle for another 10 minutes in the hope of letting the ECU adjust to the ambient/environmental parametsrs.

I'm generally quite pleased with the performance of the car when the CEL is not lit. It seems to boost higher and harder, and fuel consumption is also significantly different. With the CEL, half a tank of petrol gets me 100 km; without the CEL, half a tank gets me at least 150 km.

If anyone is able to put me on the right track on how to troubleshoot this problem, I'd be very much appreciative. For now, the game plan is to swop out the BOV first, and if another CEL gets thrown, I'd swop out the intake as well (thus increasing the likelihood that it is a problem with the test pipe).

Cheers

Kenneth
