check engine soon

the other night i was changing my front brake pads i had the front of the car jacked up and i had 2 cinder blocks holding each of the rear wheel when i was finished changing the brake pads i lowered the car and knocked out the cinder block with a sludge hammer anyway when i turned on my car i heard a electronic sound come from the engine bay like a valve closing to seal or open something but i dont know what it was and then my check engine soon light turned on it was weird. Does anybody have an explanation as to why that happened

generaly speaking, a non flashing check engine light references a emissions control system malfunction. These items are typicaly things that need to be address but do not represent an immediate threat to the motor. A flashing check engine light is somehting to watch out for. You prolly just broke your O2 sensor or something, but definitely get that code pulled to find out what it is.
