Noob question: Blend-door/Recirculate sound during IGN on question

I recently installed my Defi blue racer boost gauge, and noticed that every time I had the key in the IGN on (after ACC) position, I can hear the blower motor/blend-door/recirculate opening and closing.

I never noticed it before because I usually just start the car right up, and cant hear it.

I've only had the car two weeks.

Is this normal?

You sure it's not the sound of your fuel pump?
Where does the sound come from?

it sounds like its in the blower motor area, but i can be wrong.

in all the other cars i've been in, a fuel pump has higher frequency sound.

the sounds i'm hearing are very blower-motor-esque in their nature.

blend door = the part of the blower assembly that determines how much warmed air and cooled air enters the cabin.

i guess no one else has taken courses on automotive HVAC systems.

basically the same sound you hear when you switch from recirculated air to fresh air. thats the sound i'm hearing every time i switch the ignition on. like it goes to recirc, then pauses, then goes back to fresh air.

How did your wire the gauge?I should be wired something like this.

Defi Wire--------------------------- Stock Wire
Constant Power (Red) »Black w/ Red Stripe on Radio Harness

Ground (Black) »Black Wire from Cigarette Lighter

Ignition On (Orange) »Red Wire from Cigarette Lighter

Illumination (White) »Green w/ White Stripe Wire from Cigarette Lighter

I wired the gauge like above, except the red wire from Cig Lighter becomes brown wire towards lighter itself. I tapped into my Kenwood harness, where the constant B+ is a yellow wire.

The gauge works perfect now.

So none of you have this sound coming from your blower motor area when IGN is switched on? I just need to know if its normal or not. If not, I'll look further into it.

Do you keep your hvac on defrost by chance? The reason I ask is that when I got my car tuned they had the defrost on to blow out the heat (which I never leave on, usually keep it on mix) and I noticed that I could hear the clunk of the door closing as well. Once I switched it back it stopped doing it.

ok i drove the 240sx home on my lunch break so i can pick up the evo.

its 100% the recirculate/fresh air door opening and closing.

i only use the recirc button during times of need, but never leave it activated when i park the car (to prevent mildew etc on the evaporator). i leave the upper vents open only. (right knob all the way counter clockwise.)

hmmm.

do you have the temp knob all the way on the cool side? you know the one that is below the blue dot? if you have the knob on the whit dot (I think) the vent will go to recirculate mode every time when you star the car. I have the same noize when I install the gage, I accidentally put the knob on the whit dot. which is full cool. and eveytime I turn the key to acc or on position it will make the same noize you are talking about.
