No 'FQ' series in the US?
Anyone reckon why Mitsubishi doesn't sell the EVO FQ series in the US of A?
We've got Porsche's, Ferrari's, Aston Marton's, and all the other high performance gas guzzlers but no FQ eh?
Is it another one of those lame low demand excuses? Or emission standard violation?
Any and all speculations welcome.

A couple reasons come to mind:
Normal unleaded in the UK is something like 95 octane
Optimax Petrol is around 100 octane
Import/Export limitations probably have a role as well :P

Why do we need the FQ series when we have the BR series ....
From my understanding, all of the Evo FQ models are technically dealer-installed aftermarket kits that are still covered by the factory warranty. I think that the European emissions regulations are really strict, so the U.K.-spec Evos have less aggressive setups, then you have the option of various FQ models (ranging from FQ-260 to FQ-400) that enable you to have whatever level of Evo madness you prefer while sidestepping emissions regulations. Otherwise, the car wouldn't be legal for sale there. The U.S., on the other hand, has less strict emissions regulations, so Mitsubishi just gives us one Evo powertrain as a result, plus it's less of a headache for them to just offer one model. I consider the U.S.-spec Evo IX to be pretty similar to what an Evo IX FQ-300 is in the U.K.
Correct any of my mistakes, if there are any.

I think you missed California for strict emissions, I swear we have to have the biggest bunch of gluttons ever.
Intakes without CARB seal - illegal
Exhausts - Illegal (too "loud" unless its a harley or a mustang)
Tuning - Illegal but REALLY hard to detect
Aftermarket Highflow cat - illegal
Gasoline - Watered down with anything and prices increased!
In fact any drivetrain modification apparently isn't allowed.
So what does CARB standfor? (California Air Reasource Board)
Or my favorite (Controlling Angry Robbing B!@#@!!!@#)
