Sudden Loss of Power steering?....

Well i went to leave my parking space to night and someone was nice enough to block me in. I managed to get out of the spot, but i had to turn the wheel to full right lock to get enough room. While i was coming out of the spot i had a loud power steering grunt and suddenly its real hard to turn.

I get out and look under the car, no fluid. I check the tie-rods thinking one came loose, they are fine.

Its raining and dark, so i take a lap or two around the lot to make sure i can drive and suprisingly enough at low speed i have to strong arm the car and at slightly higher speed its normal, maybe even lighter.

even at low speed i can hear the pump grunt when i attempt to turn.

I drove it 10miles home at 50mph (stupid i know) and i am now waiting for daylight to look it over again.

Anybody have this before?

On a side note, my car is going into the shop for transfur case problems if that helps the dianosis.

I know whenever you go to full lock either way on the evo the pump will "grunt". Whats your fluid level look like?

I have recently had this problem also, but with my older car so its more common. But what I have is a leak, and one of the only ways to lose your PS fluid is for a leak to happen or a hose to have a crack. There is a loss of fluid somewhere along the lines, probably the not the return hose check the other one and just keep adding fluid when it gets low or you hear that sound or its really hard to steer at low speeds.
