EVO 8 downpipe fitment

Ok, i've been very sketchy about cheaper exhaust systems since my friend had a helix TBE on her car and the downpipe would rattle against the underbody when leaving a complete stop. She has an AMS turbo back now and it's perfect, but i was just wondering if anyone else has had bad experience with other name brand exhausts??

to clear things up im interested in knowing about fitment on evo 8's, apparently there's already a 12 page thread for fitment on the 9's

pardon my newbness but would the active center diff in some way cause a problem with the routing of the exhaust system? i was under the impression that the problem was with the front stabilizer bar...

It's usually the DP that has the fitment problem, so check the DP fitment thread that I started. It has 12 pages of people talking about fitment of DP on a evo IX. I dont know which year u have, but that thread is specifically for DP that fits IX with no problems.

Maybe its an older version of the downpipe

I bought my downpipe only a month ago so maybe a revision was fixed
I do know that it clears the bars by at least an inch or two I was paying attention when I installed it

welcome to evom!

downpipes that fit an evo 8 will NOT fit an evo 9...they use a completely different turbo and mivec. The reason they wont fit is because the mivec actuator will not clear a downpipe designed for the 8's, causing rattling and other nasty stuff. Using a downpipe designed for an 8 on a 9 can lead to catastrophic engine failure, knock and all sorts of other nasty stuff.

sorry, i will fix my thread title and first post. I was directly referring to 03 EVO 8's

Roadspike: it was definitely the older version, infact i think it was from when they first came out with them.

I have a 2004 RS

Far as i know ACD isn't even an option. Perhaps the IX model RS has ACD my Evo VIII RS does not

That's not true. My AMS down pipe is for an 8 and it fits my 9 just fine. A little tight around the ACD, but not bad. The only thing I had to do is get a new lower arm brace because I didn't want to bend or smash the tie bars.

If you have an 8, you're pretty much going to be okay no matter what. I know Megan recently released a new version for their dp for the 9's, but for a pre 05 VIII you should be okay with either dp.

Just remember this - a three inch exhaust is a three inch exhaust. You're really only shopping for price, fit, sound & weight. Try to find the best of all those and you're set.
