If it would happen to be the yoke it will throw out the oil in a straight line perpendicular to the center of the yoke. On a DSM the tell tale was a vertical black stripe on the exhaust in line with the yoke.

Actually off the top of my head, I do remember a black line of something on my exhaust. You got a picture of it?

I have the same problem (I believe) with mine only I caught the leak before the transfer case went on me.. I had it up on the lift at our tire store looking for the leak and noticed a crack on my transfer case and saw all the fluid everywhere.. I took it into the Mitsu dealer and they said whoever installed my clutch, which was a local no name shop that works on everything, had put in my transfer case wrong and caused it to crack.. It's now at a very reputable mechanic who does all of my work and he also says it looks like an install error. He told me the leak was coming from something on the driveshaft not being bolted up properly or something to that nature..

I'm interested to see what it is with yours because I'm out 3k replacing my stuff as well, and I dunno what to do about the shop that put my clutch in. I've now had 3 certified mechanics tell me it was an install error...

i bet the shop that put your clutch in accidentally lost the small o-ring that is between the TC and trans and all the oil slowly leaked out. the TC has 2 o-rings, a small one and a large one around the shaft(don't know the technical term)that connects it to the trans. the small one is very easy to knock off and lose and eventually all the fluid will be gone. check when the TC is off, i bet it's missing.

How slow would it leak out? I had it on there for about 3,000 miles.

sounds about right, the o-ring is probrably less than an inch in diameter. if there was no fluid, it never would've lasted that long. the o-ring or yoke are the only things i could think of that match your time frame, but i'd bet it was the o-ring.
