Interesting article in Import Tuner for EVO IX MR!!
Just glancing through the car mags at the local bookstore ( I've become a magazine junkie!!), and I came across a cool article in January 2007 issue of Import Tuner magazine. They individually added mods to a 2006 EVO IX MR and Dynoed after each mod. The Dyno used was DYNOJET AWD dyno. Basically, here's the summary for those who don't wanna buy the magazine: BTW they mentioned that they used multiple runs for reproducibility.
1) 2006 EVO IX MR (bone stock) Baseline numbers : Peak HP: 257.7
Peak TQ: 252.3
2) Plus K and N drop in filter: Peak HP: 262.0
Peak TQ: 255.4
3) Plus K and N drop in filter + Tanabe Medallion Full TBE: Peak HP: 286.1
Peak TQ: 259.6
4) Plus K and N + Tanabe TBE + Gizzmo Multi scramble MBC : Peak HP 298.4
Peak TQ: 268.7
Total Gains: 40.7 HP over baseline, 16.5 TQ over baseline
Total cost $ 1615
Basically, it hasn't changed my mind, I'm still gonna go with AMS stage I/flash or Buscher Stage I/flash. I thought it was interesting to see the results of the KandN drop-in though. I still believe the most important mod is upgrading the driver, not the car

Like I said, It didn't change my mind. I'm still going with AMS or Buschur stage I and flash!! I have just never seen anyone spend time to dyno a K and N drop in.
Yeah, I just saw that article. The interesting thing about the K&N is that they gained like a max of 12whp at one point in the rev range. Anyways, I thought it was retarded they didn't do a tune. Then again, they're just doing what every ricer does and that's the exhaust, intake, and boost controller.
If they spent:
$400 (alky kit)
$20 - for the alcohol
$50 - manual boost controller
$100-200 flash
They could have probably hit 350 whp for less than 1/3 of the money they spent on the dumb **** they bought. But then again not everyone likes running alky, or race gas, or nitrous for that matter =)

That price is too high, they probably gave the MSRP. The gains are not huge compare to other people. There are some tuners offereing some flashes really cheap.
Also you can get some generic brands specially for the exhaust and you can make much more power overall when matched to a good tune.
That car magazine article is very subjective..
