Driving Impressions
Now that I've had my Evo for a little more than a month, I wanted to post some thoughts on owning/driving the car. Before I bought the Evo, I had wanted one since 2000. At the time, my older brother worked for Mitsubishi's advertising agency and he got a hold of a silver Evo VI Tommi Makinen Edition. (Yes, this was the exact same press vehicle making its rounds of the US auto pubs that had the "Wake Up and Drive" lettering plastered on the side of the car). I will never forget when I saw him driving up my street and wondering what was this with the crazy foglight arrangement?? I knew what Evo's were, but this was 2000 and seeing any Evo at this point was sacred. I had the privelage of driving the car as well and at the time, it was the fastest car I had ever driven. And at that moment, I started thinking how could I import one of these..? Fast forward 6 years later, the timing being right to purchase my 06 IX.
This car is amazing. It is so entertaining to get behind the wheel even to go a few blocks to the market. It now has a little over 1500 carefully broken in miles. Although I had taken the car for a little canyon drive during the break-in period, I had not yet really opened it up.....until this past Saturday.
If you live in Los Angeles, you are probably aware of the great canyon roads located in the beach city of Malibu. I have been using these roads as weekend release when I can't afford or have the time to get to the track. They have everything from the very tight 2nd gear corners to more wide open, high speed turns. Simply put, the Evo did everything I asked of it. Once the oil temp was up the car was just mashing. The power in and out of the corners was intoxicating. Brakes were amazing, and the car just kept getting better and better--especially once the tires had heated up. Just an amazing car...so worth the price of admission.
Some other cool observations:
Love the HID's. I find myself constantly looking at people's license plates or the back ends of white and silver cars for that badass blueish-purple light they cast. Cool factor 10.
I love the way the car drives just cruising around. With the firm suspension ride, it gives the car such a sure, tight feel to it.
I also love the slight whine the engine makes for a split second when it turns over. Just very cool little things that make a car what it is.
Of course, my now ex daily driver was a bone stock 97 Accord and my dedicated track car is a del sol that is way too loud, way too uncomfortable, and just too much for anything other than the track....so the Evo is the perfect middle ground for me.

It's a great ride. But take it from me, for a daily driver... you begin to fixate on the negatives. I noticed if i drove the wifes car alot more, then the evo would feel great, but if i keep driving my evo on a day to day basis, you just start to think about all the things that annoy you. It only when you get the chance to really open her up and take her to what she was made to do that it comes back to ya.
Just a tip... Try not to get too used to her. Keep her special
