Anyone Break the 300 Mile Tank?
broke it when i first bought it... from VA to MD to NYC... haha... i got like 320? i think... and then when i got home the next day i realized why ppl. complain about the gas... in the city i get like 200+ and i'm happy...
...and for the record I have a 06 IX MR SE. When I picked up the car new (0.5 miles on it) the gas mileage was running between 250-275 per tank. Now I changed the oil at 500 miles (I do this on all my cars, I don't know why I'm just weird) and then when I hit 3,000. I've noticed in my past 2 tanks of gas my mileage has been much better as the engine has broken in and I round about 300-310 per tank with my commute from Saratoga to Albany (about an hour, 40 min highway 20 min city) to and from work every day. Bone stock btw. So far so good.
...just to touch on something. Anyone else notice the "empty" light lets you know when you have 2.5 gallons of fuel left. I find this very odd because we only have a 14 gallon (roughly) tank. So lets get this straight Mitsu you are telling us when we have approx. 18% of our total fuel left? Makes perfect sense...lol. Really though it is good because it does give you a chance to make it somewhere. When I had my Elise if the light came on and you weren't around the corner from the gas station you were in BIG trouble. (I know because I ran out of gas in it. Three times!
)
)I'll let you guys know what happends afterwards
The car was driven off the truck, into the shop, onto the showroom floor for my pick-up. Came from Mitsu. with .3 on the clock and the dealership I deal with locally put .2 on it. So their "post production circle" was apparently quite short on this one...
I got a IX GSR and I've only broke it once but other than that on the parkway and turnpike in jersey I seem to blow through some gas, glad I commute to the city for work and leave the car in the garage till the weekend
on my 03 evo with the smaller tank, i usually get about 240-250 in city and highway mixed driving but i have seen 330 on all highway. I have noticed around winter my mileage goes down to 190-200 to the tank, thinking it might be the gas companies adding some additive to the gas for the winter weather. Havent found any information on it yet though.
YES! Absolutely modding your car will increase the fuel mileage, if you do not beat on it harder than you were before it was modded.
A turbo back exhaust and air filter kit will make the most difference. Getting the air in and out of the engine easier makes it more efficient and the fuel mileage will increase.

I routinely get 310-320 miles per tank by driving extremely conservatively. Shifts are usually 1 - 3 - 5 - 6 and I can only imagine it pisses people behind me off to see my driving that slow on the street. The key to any type of mileage with this car is to keep boost to a minimum and engine load to a minimum.
I used also get tricked by the gas light all the time and end up going to the gas station to only put 11-12 gallons in the tank. I think its conservative like this because under heavy boost, the car guzzles gasoline. On track days at road courses, I average maybe 70 miles to a tank.

It is amazing the difference tire inflation makes! In my earlier post I had just taken a trip to Michigan (logged in from my home town library) and had gotten 24.6 mpg on the trip. Before driving home to Indiana I checked all my tires (just recently put the snow tires on and hadn't checked them yet) they were all 4 low on air. Driving conditions were vertially identical on the trip home, but I got 26.6 mpg. I could have made it the entire trip (gas station in home town to gas station where I live now, 350 miles) on one tank of fuel if I had realized how good my milage was running.... but I don't like to risk running out.

Personally I believe the huge fluctuations in MPG has more to do with the style driving than the tune. For example, when I did a road trip (highway driving) and kept the car at ~65mph I saw ~340 miles on a tank....Same tune with spirited country road driving yields 220 miles at best, sometimes just 200....

I agree!
