The 07 Sti is a REAL contender, they are almost as Capable as the IX's in power production now, if not equal. LOTS of revamps in Turbo and Head design and gearing, watch out, they are not slow at all.

My car was stock for the first 5,000 miles...

I got to drive my buddies IX RS w/ TBE Thats when I caught the bug... I havent spent much and I'm quite satisfied with the car the way it is... Not one problem so far **knock on wood**

Mods:

Greddy Ti
Aspec Ti Cat delete
Downpipe
Boost gauge
Drop in filter
Springs

Just need a boost controller and a tune and I'll be close to spending $2100.

If money is tight, an Evo might not be a terrific choice. They're cheap to buy, but relatively expensive to maintain. You need synthetic oil changes every 3K, transfer-case and rear-diff flushes every 6K, and tranny flushes every 10-15K. The life-span of clutches, pads, rotors, and tires is on the short side (and parts costs are high). You go through fuel at an alarming rate...and high-octane ain't cheap when you barely get 200 miles to the tank in mixed city/highway use. For most of us, insurance is a real killer.

Seriously, the Evo is a pretty expensive car to own and maintain properly.

I kept my 2003 Evo VIII stock for most of the 1st year. I only started modding it because there were some specific areas I wanted to improve for my use. Evo IX's are even better in stock form. You really don't need to mod. And if money's tight, then you shouldn't mod anyway...otherwise you'd be throwing your warranty out the window.

Eventually, you will modify. I lasted three years, incredibly enough.

Mine is stock right now. I don't think I'll do any power mods, just suspension. I like my 22mpg thank you very much (240miles to the tank, filling up close to 11gallons each time). Coming from my old car that was getting 14mpg avg. The evo is one of the most fuel efficent cars I have owned. Who would have thought.
