I live in Ohio as well and every ticket I've ever received has a section stating what type of device the officer used to clock your speed (radar, lidar, etc.) Doesn't your ticket tell you what he used to clock your speed?

I got the ticket in Richfield (I'm assuming you know where that is since you live in Medina) and the place on the ticket where there are several boxes for the officer to designate the method of taking speed by placing a checkmark or x (pace, laser, air, radar, stationary, moving, etc.) is left completely blank. When my family members have gotten Ohio traffic tickets for speeding, the cop has always put something in this area.

Could be different state to state but in illinois for officers to be able to do that they have to go through a series of tests and never bee more than 3 mph off when estimating speed that way.

That will be your little bit of revenge and you can go back about your life.
Agreed, you were profiled for breaking the law. I'm amazed that cops can still get away with profiling people in that way!

In IL tickets can be amended when in court.

+1 for using a ticket clinic or a local traffic attorney. You'll still wind up paying, but the big thing is not taking the insurance hit(at least for me).

So last night I was driving home from a friends house around 2:30am and on this particular road there is a hill and in the direction I am traveling the speed limit changes from 45 to 40 and then to 30 all within a mile. I am going down the hill at about 55 (I was very tired and not paying much attention to my speed as the road is relatively untraveled at that time of night) and halfway up the hill where the speed limit changes from 45 to 40 I pass a cop traveling in the other direction. I look in my rear view mirror and see hime brake, then drive a bit, then turn. I reached the top of the hill at this point and the cop is out of sight. About 30 seconds later I see his headlights coming over the top of the hill behind me. He flips on his lights and I promptly pull over. He takes my license and insurance and then gets in his car to write me a ticket. He told me that he clocked me at 62 slowing down to 58. He then wrote me a ticket for going 58 in a 40. What do you guys think about this? Is it possible that he lasered me that quickly? My thinking is that he just guessed my speed since he was traveling in the other direction and I was out of his view in 30 seconds or less. On the ticket, where the cop is supposed to put the method (radar, pace, laser, etc.) the police officer didn't check any of the boxes. Is anybody in law enforcement that could give me a definitive answer? The reason I'm asking is that I really don't want my already ridiculously high insurance rates to go up and I am going to go to court (even though I could pay the waiver) to see if I can get the ticket dismissed by the judge, (hopefully the cop doesn't show up to my court date.) Thanks in advance for any help.
actually, i had this same exact problem a few weeks ago. except i was going 45 in a 20...on college campus grounds at 1030 when there was no1 around. but i did some research and it IS possible for lasers to detect your speed even when the cop is moving and even from the opposite direction. The point is that if you havent gone to court yet for this, what you should do is type up a letter to the judge explaining NICELY your situation. Its okay to slightly bend the truth in favor of yours, cuz the judge won't check with the cop that pulled you over. If you're polite etc etc, the judge'll let you off with only the fine and mayb defensive driving. But your record will be clean as a whistle. Trust me on this, i've gotten out of 2 situations where my record was at stake by using this method.

Thanks for your help guys. From fellow evo drivers I've met on the road to evom, it seems like pretty much everyone in the evo community is helpfull and supportive, which is awesome. I'm not really sure how I'm gonna handle this, but I'll let you know after my court date. Thanks again!

Dont admit to going 55. Be sincere and polite and use your driving history to hide your guilt. You dont have to lie, just try to introduce doubt in the accuracy of the officers guestimation. Your the victim damnit. Because he guessed you were going 58 in a 40 at 2:30 am while travelling in the opposite direction, you, a perfect driver have to live with his mistake. Make him look like the badguy. Or if you got money, just hire a lawyer.
NoTec is right....plead not guilty, get a court date and time. Arrive early, see if the cop is there, if not it is dismissed....regardless speak to the Prosecutor, don't admit guilt be polite and show him your clean driving record and plea it down....best case dismissed or a minor fine with no points, once your in agreement, the Prosecutor will tell the judge that both parties have agreed, the judge will ask you if this is correct and the judge will finalize the order.... That is the same thing your attorney/traffic ticket company agents usually do...of course they may have a professional relationship that doesn't hurt... Good luck

if you plead not guilty, theres a lot more stuff you have to do than that. what you said is the same as pleading guilty and taking defensive driving. no points added to your driving record and you just pay your fine. this is assuming you've written a letter or talked with the judge.

He estimated your speed when you pased him, proabably saw the massive wing and if you have an exhaust, he probably heard that. It sucks but it looks like you were profiled And you were speeding. No advice here but everyone who chimes in is gonna tell you to get a lawyer and you should have had a radar detector.

Oh, and when you saw him brake, did you brake at all??? <-- Thats important.
Good Luck!!
^^ He's right. The braking part also has something to do with it because if you braked and he saw you right when you both passed each other then he probably knew that you were speeding and decided to you pull you over and give you a ticket cause you just gave him a reason.

sux but were you speeding? I think today's society does not take responsibility for their actions. Don't speed and you won't have a problem. Plus at 230 in the morning you stick out like a sore thumb. My 2cents!
