is the 6 speed worth modding?

All the stuff I read and hear makes me not want to mod the Evo. Is the 4rth gear really that big of a liability?

Who hear has actually broke their 4rth gear?

Only two people(Warrtalon and Scott from TTP) that I am aware broke their 4th gear on a 6 speed gearbox.

Keep in mind they are to my knowledge the two Evo MR owners that drive their cars the most hardcore(dragstip, autocross, road course). If I have to count how many 5 speed gearboxes failed I would truly run out of paper.

Other than that, a MR gearbox should last you forever as long as the mods aren't crazy mad.

I was thinking more along the lines of 330-360whp. I would sure hope that is not to much power to handle.

I believe it should be good, Just so long as you aren't a bad driver.

The guys that broke their 4th gear on the 6 speed are hardcore track guys. They're out there wringing their Evos on the strip, road course, auto-x, or a combination of all. You won't have a problem unless you're running your Evo on some type of track event many many times. There are guys such as WarmPepsi that have a MR and didn't have their 4th gear crap out although they do track events far more than the average Evo owner.

You forgot me.

Also my buddy sean, a works sponsored car, voidhawk, and a couple others that have posted on evom.

That said, I really believe it's from heat, so on the street and non-crazy HP, it should be fine.

your target is a non-crazy whp. The reason the 6 speed's get their *** kicked is the extended races (road races) which put lots of stress on the transmission and also the extreme temps of the tranny fluid. Some people have used tranny oil coolers and the 6 speed supposedly holds up a little better in that case. Also, the 6 speed doesn't have as much fluid in it, which is also a downside.
