crank hp

given the mods in my signature i am guessing i am around the 320 crank hp mark. i know there is no scientific way to calculate from whp to crank but people keep asking me how much hp (ie crank hp) my car has..you guys think the 320 mark is roughly right given my mods...

Just tell them crank hp means nothin and get with the real! lol Yeah though i would say if you put down 290awhp that 335-340 is close.

Multiply your actual wheel hp x 1.15 or 1.2.
Remember that all wheel drice cars are at a disadvantage as they have alot more mass to move which takes away from inertia.

On average 4wd cars have 20% tranny losses or more...

So for example a 300awhp EVO would be around 360 at the crank...

plus as the horsepower increases the tranny losses increase...more friction, higher temps, etc etc...

It doesn't matter if a lot of people are asking for that. When someone asks how much power you make, you tell them exactly what you put down - nothing more; nothing less. If they don't know that crank HP is an imaginary number, then they don't know anything about cars or power. Just tell them what you put down - that's all you know and all that matters.

If you have a stock dyno of your car then just apply the ratio between your stock whp and the factory crank hp to the modded whp to get your (very) theoretical modded crank hp.

In his case, it would be skewed, because it says he put down 218whp stock, which would mean he gained 72whp with a dp, cat-back, mbc, and tune (stock cat), which we know didn't happen, so I think it's best to just say "two ninety" and be done.

As far as I can tell from his posted dyno chart, the 72whp did happen. Whether that represents one run in favorable conditions or a repeatable number really doesn't matter to me. If the owner (zeus1) thinks that it is a reasonable representation of his car's performance, then I don't see anything wrong with using the above ratio to estimate crank hp - the key word, of course, being "estimate". Naturally if one goes off spouting that their car has 400 crank hp and then gets beat by a 350 hp car ...

Whateverthe case may be... the point that warrtalons trying to make is this....... if the people you talk to only talk in Crank horse power terms than thats their problem. That facts of life are that you have 290 REAL, ROADGOING, TIRE TOUCHING PAVEMENT HORSEPOWER! Tell them that
